Evanna Lynch: "Snape is good...there is no question."

In a new interview with the New York Post, Evanna Lynch discusses many things including her first meeting with JK Rowling, getting to role of Luna Lovegood, and her other plot theories for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, including the most controversial: Is Snape good or evil.

According to Evanna, Snape is good.
Quote:

Q: So, what's your opinion? Is Snape good or bad?
A: Good, good, there is no question in my opinion. I have too much faith in Dumbledore to believe he is bad. I think it would destroy the character of Dumbledore and that would be too tragic to think about. I don't like Snape as a person but I believe he is with the good guys. I think he feels responsible for Lily's death because he told Voldy part of the prophecy without realizing it was about her. And when he found out it was his fault he was completely wracked with guilt and by confessing to Dunbledore and agreeing to help the good side and ultimately Harry, Snape hopes to be able to earn Lily's forgiveness so that he can rest in peace. I also noticed that while Snape was killing Dumbledore, there was hatred blazing in his eyes, and that makes me wonder even if he was killing Dumbledore for Voldemort and not on Dumbledore's orders. There would be no reason for Snape to hate him. Voldemort could, but Dumbledore has never had any relations with Snape that should make him hate him. I don't think it was a mistake that earlier in the book at the cave when Harry is force feeding Dumbledore the potion it is written that Harry was "hating himself" for doing it. Snape was just hating himself for having to kill Dumbledore. He knew it was for the greater good but it still pained him to do it. One could argue that if it was for good intent Snape would not have been able to kill him but I think he channeled the self hatred (there is a lot of self hatred there, poor old Snape) into the curse, and viola, he killed Dumbledore. That's just a little thing, but it contributes to the overall belief: Snape is good.

emma_rlz 07-01-2007 05:36 PM

I totally agree with Evanna.

Rebel 07-01-2007 05:37 PM

Snape is definately good =))

jmh 07-01-2007 05:39 PM

I agree, but I have to believe there is something more than Snape saying he's sorry that prompted Dumbledore to trust him. Dumbledore was able to make mistakes but he also knew Snape was a Deatheater and I never thought Dumbledore was a Fool.

Oh very good Evanna.

D.A Forever 07-01-2007 09:22 PM

I don't agree <_<

Even if it does come down to snape being 'good', I still don't like him.

I agree with this, though- That still doesn't make a difference.
So what? If it wasn't Lily, if it was some other person, he wouldn't have cared. Its only because its Lily..

I also agree with that, BUT. Dumbledore, like everyone else, is only human. We all make mistakes. and even though it sure seems like Dumbledore knows literally everything, Which I'm sure he does, That doesn't mean afew things can't slip past him..

Hmm. but thats just my opinion, So all you who love Snape, Don't get mad at me :P

I'm sure in the end, no matter what I think, - He'll be a good guy.
But that doesn't mean I have to stop thinking he's an evil git

S_potter 07-01-2007 09:24 PM

there's some truth to that but i'm leaning towards snape being a foe.

Crayola 07-01-2007 09:29 PM

I so agree with her. I ahve total faith on DD's judgments and if he believed Snape was good and I believe it too...
Evanna's great... it's really amazing that she is such a great fan...

Hermionespell 07-01-2007 09:31 PM

It's wonderful to have such a big Potterite involved so closely with the movies. She definitely points out some very interesting facts there and adds some of her own opinions to it as well. One of the main reasons that I am split about Severus Snape's position (good or evil) is the fact that Dumbledore trusted him completely. There is so much pointing the finger of blame at Snape for being evil, but maybe that was Jo's intention the entire time....maybe she wanted to make him out to be so evil, so that we would all be more surprised when he is finally revealed as good?

This is the 'Great Snape Debate' indeed.

cbarr03 07-01-2007 10:04 PM

I agree snape is good

BrightestWitch 07-01-2007 10:23 PM

I agree. Even Daniel said he tried to read the books but it wasn't until he was cast as Harry was he able to really finish a book.

Having a character that knows so much and is so in grossed in the story line is WONDERFUL. I'm sure that is how she pulls off Luna so gracefully.

Ginny GL 07-01-2007 11:09 PM

I'll separate being good from being on the good side. The first part NO the second, remains to be seen. I don't think Snape being bad would destroy Dumbledore's personality, it would only confirm his tendency to trust people and his conviction in everybody deserving a second chance.

Only a three weeks to find out and make our own conclussions!

camilas 07-01-2007 11:25 PM

I really like this girl. She's a huge fan of the books and, by the very brief scene "I can see then too" released last week, she plays Luna perfectly. It's good that we have someone like her on the sets. Congratulations to Evanna for doing a great job.
As for Snape... we shall find out soon enough.

Mikaela 07-01-2007 11:55 PM

Haha, go Evanna! She's very articulate and obviously her love of the series is as great as she says. She's great!

Hermy99 07-02-2007 01:06 AM

Cool!I totally agree with her.
