David Heyman says 'Fantastic Beasts' movie to have 'few big' roles, early in casting David Heyman's recent update on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them's notes that the production is in early stages, including casting for what he mentioned were a 'few leads', including Newt Scamander. Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne, who is currently rumoured as frontrunner for the role of Scamander, was brought up in conversation, though the producer of the Harry Potter series would not commit to any names or a time frame as to when filming will start exactly. Heyman stated previously that it should start sometime later this summer. Quote:

so ok... i distinctly remember they said the start date is late summer of this year... then in the next interview they said, later this year..... and now its there is no start date? ok sounds like the script is a bit uhoh :whut: maybe they should get Steve Kloves to help out again? cant blame JKR if she's having some trouble with a screenplay, this is her first time out, and any writer can tell you that writing screenplays and novels are two very different beasts. |
Augustus Worme, and Love interest Porpentina perhaps are the other key roles being cast? |
Even though it hasn't started yet I am still counting the days until it's ready :) :woot: |

@jk_rowling Is it true that there won't be a Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie anymore?? Follow J.K. Rowling ✔@jk_rowling .@JulianaValdez15 Well, if it is, I've wasted a lot of time finishing the script. #ThereWillDefinitelyBeFantasticBeasts 6:50 PM - 16 Dec 2014 so it's probably her doing a few tweaking to it. and plus this movie wouldn't have happened at all without JKR's blessing and she only let WB do the movie if they let her write the script. so if they take her out- bye bye FBaWtFT movie. I'd rather wait longer and it be Jo's script than them bringing Kloves again. |

its not unusual for screenplays to go through several drafts. thats standard even. what is unusual is to have production start dates getting pushed further and further back, specially for a big tentpole project with a pegged release date. its a logistics trapeze act to get everybody's schedule to work on one thing for a specific period of time-- and thats even for those with zero issues. something as basic as screenplay-- which is the foundation of a movie-- being delayed from getting to even just "shooting script" competency? yeah big uhoh. delays in start dates results in people attached/ interested in this project to leave/ take a pass, since the window of opportunity for them to work on this have been missed. it also means WB will have to find a new release date (and all the other headaches that will ensue with having to change their marketing strategy) and of course theres the touchy issue of running overbudget $$$$$$ |

theres an earlier report that they're shopping around for family members of the Scamander clan. i do wonder how they're doing this if Redmayne isnt signed yet. what if they line up a fam that looks like him and then he drops out? they have to recast? eek that sounds tricky. |
