Cherrybomb co-star talks Rupert Grint

One of Rupert Grint's Cherrybomb costars, actress Kat Kirk, spoke recently about working wtih Rupert, her character in the project, and her experience making the feature.

She particularly noted how difficult it is to get the Northern Irish accent perfected, which Rupert used throughout the film:

Quote:

What’s your opinion on Rupert’s acting in this film?
Kat:
Rupert played the part of Malachy well. He’s a very talented guy and really brought Malachy to life. I don’t want to give too much away though!

Did he nail the accent according to you?
Kat:
The Northern Irish accent is a tricky one because it can be really difficult to replicate and I imagine this could have caused some alarm. I remember when I first met Rupert and Kimberley, I told them as long as you pretend you’re a pirate when pronouncing the letter “r” then there shouldn’t be a problem! I like to think they took my advice, I thought it was pretty good!
Kat also mentioned her character's relationship to Rupert's:

Quote:

How is Sharon’s relationship with Malachy and how would she describe him?
Kat
: Sharon would see Malachy as just that guy who was always with Luke. I suppose Sharon would describe Malachy as reasonably good looking, popular and a pretty average guy. She would probably accuse him of lacking personality or substance; nothing more than a pretty face, but accepts him regardless. I reckon she would compliment him on his sense of style though!
Cherrybomb will be featured at the Berlin and Dublin film festivals next month. Rupert's publicists have stated that he is not yet confirmed to attend either film festival; we will update on whether or not he is to appear at the events when the information is made available.

She's being vague. I have a feeling she didn't like his acting nor his accent ...

cgold 01-28-2009 04:50 AM

Cool interview. It's sad that I only know the 3 main characters.

I also agree, but if it doesn't come to the US, then I hope there's a DVD in the future. Right?

Paint.the.Limelight 01-28-2009 02:51 PM

Right...because Emma's Ballet Shoes wasn't in theaters in the US, but they have the DVD in stores there right now.

Shopgirl3876 01-28-2009 06:23 PM

Good advice with the accent.

MalfoyzBeloved 01-30-2009 08:28 PM

I bet, at most, it'd be limited release in the States and possibly Canada. More likely just the States though :grumble: and a couple months later or shortly before, like In Bruges was (just for example). That was a good movie...

I second that! I'd love to return home from France and see it on the shelves...
If not hopefully one of the amazon sites doesn't mind shipping overseas?
But no doubt it'll be online. Finding it, though... :P I have NO DOUBT it'll be on DVD though, Driving lessons and December Boys weren't in theatres in Canada but they're on the shelves of movie stores and rental places. No worries, we'll get it somehow up north!

I love the advice on the Northern Irish accent. Be a pirate :D
Is Kat from Northern Ireland then? (I honestly know nothing about the movie besides the storyline and Rupert is in it) Or has she just mastered the Northern Irish accent?

Mari of the Ocean 01-31-2009 07:23 PM

nice interview
