Magical Measuring Area Just as you enter the shop, in between all the chaos that may or may not have been going on, is a rather open area with a measuring tape that seems to be hovering in mid air. It wiggles and flies around, ready to measure the next customer to walk into it's range. The measuring tape will eagerly measure your height, the reach of your arm, and maybe even other strange measurements to help the wandmakers find the best wand for you. |

Grinning and feeling happy to finally get her first wand she stepped into the shop, she had DREAMED about this day, the day when she finally would be able to get her wand and to use magic! The only downside was that she actually couldn’t use magic until she was at Hogwarts but... A girl could dream right? Looking over her shoulder she saw how her dad walked away from her, he needed to do something else while she was inside but that wasn’t a problem at all, she wasn’t a stupid little child who always needed to hold the hand from her daddy! No, she was already eleven years old and she was big enough to get her own first want all by herself! So when she walked closer toward the others she saw how they were measured by a magical lint! Impressed she stared at the measuring lint, wondering what spell had been used to let it move like that… Looking down at the rat she just had bought, save locked up in a rat carrier she grinned again! When it was her turn to be measured she looked curious at what the measuring lint was doing and what was going to happen next, was the measuring lint also going to give her a wand? But how? Or was there somebody else who would help her after this and was the measuring lint only a tool to register a few things? Hmm… Tegz: Ira Banner has replied for you here! |
Emilia walked into the store, not exactly sure what to expect, scared but excited. The wand was the thing she was most excited for. She looked around and it seemed nice. It looked fairly normal. Well, until the measuring tape started...flying? You couldn't blame her for being shocked. Growing up around muggles didn't exactly prepare you for things like this, and her mum was definitely not going to explain things. The last thing she wanted to do was annoy or anger someone with her clumsiness, which she, sadly, had a knack for. So she just stood there and let it measure her, jumping with shock when it shot up from the floor, up her arm and almost hit her face. Cilla nervously entered the store. She was going to get her first wand. When the opportunity arose, she made her way to the measuring area. She stood perfectly still as the measuring tape measured her height and arm width. Cilla was intrigued by the whole process. Pat: Jodi has responded to you here! |
Not for Nothing, but Aegis was SO DONE with the Summer. He had to be chaperoned around Diagon Alley to pick up his School supplies, and worst of all it was from the Enforcing GeeGee. He loved that old lady, she was so cool on the best of days, but if you make her angry.....parish the thought! DON'T DO THAT! He angrily snapped his wand into pieces in retaliation for being barred from playing in his Quodpot Junior League, and being forced to continue his Education at Hogwarts. So yeah...he stood still glaring angrily outside the window at the Old Lady who in return, equally glared back at him. All the while the measuring tape flew around him noting his arm length and such. Sadie walked into the shop, hearing the bell ding as she shut the door behind her. She smiled as she watched a few other students get their measurements done, anxious to find out what her own new wand will be like. When it came her turn, she stood still as she was measured by the hovering wand tape, so excited it was hard to stay unmoving. Pat: Jodi has responded to you here! |
After Brian left Gringotts, where they squinted at him from their high counters and told him that he couldn't use normal money anywhere here, he wound up at Ollivander's. So this was where they got their magic stick things. Their... ah, yeah. Wands. His sister had one, but it was pink and sparkly and had a star on the top. Now if there was anything Brian did not want, it was a sparkly pink wand with a star. He stepped into the shop anyway, and prayed really hard that there were no sparkles involved in the wand-getting process. None whatsoever. What he was not expecting there to be, however, was a floating measuring tape. "Eek!" he squeaked, backing away before realising that it was harmless. Harmless piece of measuring equipment. Measuring equipment that moved of its own accord. Nothing to it. He was entering a world of magic. This thing was probably normal. Anyway, Brian let it measure his arm and circumference of his wrist and all that. Didn't mean he wasn't highly suspicious of the thing, though. Oh no. This was quite possibly one of the most exciting things that had ever happened to her! Kate Addison stepped through the doors of Ollivander's far ahead of her mom, who kept calling out to her to wait up and refusing all the while to run after her. Kate was just too excited, though! She'd seen many wands in her life, but none of them had belonged to her! This one was going to be hers, and she could cast real magic with it! She joined the line that had formed for the measuring tape and did a little bounce of happiness, since there was no way she could stand still right now. Her mother finally caught up with her and stood beside Kate as they waited. "How many times do you think it'll take, Mom?" she asked, and then before Daphne Addison had a single second to answer, a second question came. "What do you think the core will be?" The line moved quickly then, and suddenly, Kate was at the front of it. The tiny blonde hurried up to the tape and held her arms wide as she waited for the magic to happen. The measuring tape danced around her arms as it took a measurement of how long they were. A second later, it was dashing this way and that, measuring her height, too. Kate didn't know what to do but just stand there and take it all in. Finally, the tape was finished. It had spiraled away from her and was moving on to work with somebody else. She stepped down and waited with her mom again, but this time she was a little more still and quiet, because she guessed somebody would soon be along to give her her wand. Two boys entered the wand shop, one looks like he is in his first year at Hogwarts, probably getting his first wand, and another looks like he is too old to be his brother, yet too young to be the father. Scott follows the older boy from behind, looking at his surroundings in awe until he feels a nudge on his shoulder. He steps closer to the measuring tapes area and despite being raised in a wizarding family, he startles when a tape starts flying around him. Rose: Bryce has replied for you here! |
Harper was nearly bouncing as he stepped into Ollivanders. After years of having to make do with a stick when he was pretending to be a great wizard like Merlin he was now going to have a real wand. One of his very own! It was so very grown up to have a wand. He was less excited about the crazy measuring tape. Harper couldn't be sure, but he didn't think the circumference of his head was something they needed to know to give him his wand. He also wasn't sure why height was important. Still he simply sighed and put up with the attacking tape, waiting for it to finish so that he could get to the good part. The wand waving. Rose: Bryce has replied for you here! |
Janelle arrived at Olivander's barely able to contain her excitement. She was finally getting a wand of her very own, just like her brother and sister before her. She stood in awe as she looked around the shop. There were so many people there and so much activity. It was a bit overwhelming for an eleven year old. Nevertheless, Janelle bravely walked through the store, ready to start her adventure. Janelle was a bit taken aback when she was accosted by a wild measuring tape. After being reassured by her big sister, she stood still and allowed the tape to do its work. When the measuring was done, Janelle looked to Jasmine to tell her the next step. She was so very anxious to get her wand and wondered which one would be the one to choose her. Rose: Bryce has replied for you here! |
Corrigan wiggled her way into the shop, ignoring the exasperated noise that came from above and below her. She hadn't wanted her siblings to come with her, since they weren't going to Hogwarts, but at least her older siblings were being busy shopping the non-magic shops like Florean Fortesque's. Not so her younger brother, who'd been bothering her all morning with talk of how he was going to be a magician when he grew up and wanted to see what real wands were like. Fortunately, her father salvaged the situation with a suggestion that he take her brother to the joke shop, leaving Corrigan free to enter the wand shop all by herself. Deep breaths. It wasn't like this was going to decide the fate of her spellcasting life except that it totally was. Deep breath in, one, two, three, four. Exhale out, one, two, three, four. Well, that didn't help. Time to go back to the old standby: Charge! Corrigan walked over to the measuring area and gave the temperamental-looking measuring tape a glare as it snapped itself at her and began to take her measurements. When it went to measure her nostrils (for whatever arcane reason), she gave a sharp intake of air and briefly sucked a portion of the tape up her nose. Ha! ...and then winced as the tape pulled itself out and smacked her on the tip of her nose. She supposed she'd deserved it, but still. Ow. Rose: Bryce has replied for you here! |
First wand fitting With a bounce in her step, Hermy walked to the counter of the wand shop and waited impatiently for the magical measuring tape to finishing measuring her and her to receive her wand as she wiggled about nervously and excitedly. Rose: Bryce has replied for you here! |
Poking her head around the door frame, Amur blinked with wide eyes at the interior of the shop. It was a might deal more tidy than the Scribbulus shop, but boy-oh-boy there were a lot of people about. She knew her cousin had made her way over in this direction, but with her height-deficiency, Amur couldn't get much of a glimpse past the others in the shop. Tucking her precious package under her arm, Amur took a deep breath and stepped into the shop and up to one of the available measuring tapes. She didn't know much about wands, but her toes were tingling with the excitement of getting her very own. "Good day. I'm here for a...urm...fitting?" Was that the right word? Clothes fit as did shoes, but she wasn't sure how a wand could fit. Nevertheless, the tape seemed to understand and hurried about measuring her height. Embarrassed at her disadvantage in such things and knowing she would grow, or find some way to do so, Amur slowly raised herself onto her tipie-toes. It wasn't much, but it brought her up another few centimeters. The measuring tape, however, was not one to be easily fooled and pressed down on her head, encouraging her to stand proper and flat-footed once more. A heavy sigh escaped Amur as the tape quickly took her true height and the short length of her arms. "I'll grow." The tape offered what seemed to be a shrug before whizzing off to help another customer. Tegz: Ira has replied for you here! |
As Dalton approached the measuring area, he sent a rueful glance in Aleds direction. The other boy was far too busy being nosey at absolutely everything and everyone to give much more than a thumbs up back, but even this went unnoticed - by now, the tape was measuring his height. And then his head circumference. The eleven year old was totally wigged out by this whole situation, and tried as hard as possible to keep his eye on the tape measure, causing him to contort his body as the strip zapped around him. This was it, the moment she had been waiting for! Margo walked into Ollivanders with her mother and stepped up to the measuring tape ready for this moment. She needed this, needed her wand to feel like this real. That she really was a witch! It was Margo's turn and the tape measure perked up like it heard her approaching. It flew toward Margo as he held out her wand hand....and away the tape went, first her total height, then her arms, then her hand, then her...nostrils? What?? It made Margo giggle as the measuring tape seemed satisfied and she waited to be assisted. Bouncing on the balls of her feet the entire time! Tegz: Ira has responded here! |

Cody didn't see what was so interesting about little twigs with bits of animal stuffed inside; but to humour himself, he was here to acquire a Or whatever they did here. He loafed in to the magical measuring area! and rolled his eyes at all the signs and instructions surrounding him. Someone was a bit of a control freak, eh? Torie practically ran to the measuring area, dad had warned him that it would be a weird little measuring thing running around him and measuring everything from his ear size to the bit under his nose. Heh, didn't matter to him, he was getting his wand! He got there before Jay and practically bounced on his toes as he watched the tape run around him measuring the different places it found the need to stick itself into. Nearly falling over when it zoomed around him and measured around his head and then down around his ankles. He sighed with relief when it finally fell to the floor. Tegz: Ira has addressed you here |
Giving Torie the side eye curiously, Jay waited his turn and pretended not to be looking. Mum had said to just be good and not fight and she was watching, so he'd let Torie go first. At least then he knew what would happen. He supposed he was going to have to go before Torie at the sorting because of his last name so this sort of made up for it in a way. When Torie was done, Jay stepped up to the tape and watched as it zoomed around him doing things he didn't understand. He blinked up at the two waiting for him and then stumbled away from the tape as soon as he possibly could. He didn't like things that moved faster than he could keep up with! WAND WAND WAND WAND WAND!! Rusty was GETTING HER WAND! She grabbed her mum's hand and dragged her down the cobbled street - very narrow, super cool, awesomely magic - and into the shop that had wands in the window. She was very excited about all of this, she could EXPLODE. "Mum, come ON!" Stop dawdling to look at things, they could do that when she had her WAND and could cast her SPELLS. She hadn't quite grasped the no-magic-out-of-school concept yet. Anyway, here they were, in the shop. Violet, Rowan's mum, was still inspecting the magical coins they had got in Gringotts, but Rowan had already identified the place where people were heading for and bounded over. "I want a wa-... EEP!" There was nobody there, but a measuring tape had just ACCOSTED her and was measuring her seemingly randomly. That was... kind of funny. And Rusty started giggling almost uncontrollably, doing her best to stay stood up straight. "Mum... mum! Look!" Violet was gazing around in awe. She wondered momentarily if they'd let her have one of those wands, they were beautiful. And if they did things like THAT... her other spells would be much stronger, surely? But that ministry person had emphasised the difference between their magic and this... so... probably not. Sigh. "Oh!" Vi's face lit up again and she walked over to her daughter, watching the measuring tape carefully. "How does that work?" "It's magic, mum!" Obviously! Rusty waited a little longer, but then the measuring tape seemed to be done, so... "I think I've gotta go over there. Come on, Mum!" Bast let out some energy and excitement in the short run from his mum to the measuring area, dodging a few other other kids waiting around to snatch up some free space. Bounce, bounce, bounce. When was he gonna get a turn with the measuring tape? His blue eyes followed it around closely until it finally came his way, and then he was as still as a statue, arms out and eyes still attempting to watch the tape. Hard task since the thing was moving allllll around him and his eyes could only move so much without the help of his head, but he didn't want to mess it up. He needed the PERFECT wand. When it was done, he let his arms flop to his side and then looked around expectantly. Where was the wandmaker to give him his soon-to-be most prized possession? Tegz: Ira has addressed you here |
Chris looked around and watched as other people stood there with a measuring tape zooming around them. What a weird thing. He wasn't surprised about it but...was still weird. Chris waited his turn growing a little impatient with waiting. It seemed that was all he did in Diagon Alley. Waaaaaaaaaiting in lines. FINALLY it was his turn. He stepped up and the measuring tape started doing its thing again. After it seemed to be done he walked away and sighed. Was that it? How was that supposed to tell him what wand was meant for him? Rula was kind of fascinated by the measuring tape that started hovering around her when she reached it. She watched it as it measured her height and arms and everything else. And theeeen it was done? Rooney had held his mothers hand only until they entered the shop, and were no longer among the street crowds of conversational shoppers. Then it was shoved into his pockets as he scuffed his feet against one another. "Why couldn't Lop come with us today? Did she have to go visit today? Did we have to come without her and Daddy Dex?" He looked towards the woman accompanying him with a raised eyebrow. Weren't he and Calliope supposed to be doing this school thing together? That WAS what they'd been looking forward to. If today needed a title, it wouldn't be one of comprehensive matter. Tamzin had spent two hours of the early morning crying against her husband's shoulder attempting to come to terms that their oldest two children were within the single-digit-weeks before they would be off to school. She'd raised her boy for eleven years, and Dex had done the same with Calliope. It seemed like only yesterday that she was losing Jessie and carrying Rooney, and mere hours ago that she was left carrying Brinlee and made a single parent. However, she'd cleaned her face up, kissed her husband and other children and let them meander off to Dex's parents for a few hours. She and Rooney needed to talk about an important subject, and she hadn't felt it was fair to tell him what he wanted to know in front of their family. Getting his wand was somewhat to soften the blow.. "We have a place to go afterwards, Roo. It's your day, honey." And she gave him a one armed hug, knowing perfectly that her son wouldn't want to be fiercely cuddled and covered in Mama!lipstick kisses. Yeah. Rooney still didn't understand. But okay, Mama. Sure. He would just compare notes with Calliope later, and see if she knew why they had to do this separately. The conclusion he had came to was that one of them was in trouble, because their parents were no doubt smart enough to separate them for another reason. They were The Doctor and Sarah Jane. Roo decided not to push it further, but only because his attention had wandered to the measuring tape getting all close and personal with his being. There wasn't a problem, and he actually made sure to stand how he knew it was needed to. He'd been around the tapes in his Ma's life for long enough to get that if he didn't stand still...he was going to end up tripped over by one. "Promise that you'll stay here and let me get it myself?" Rooney Bronwyn had been saving for his wand since he was five years old. Because then it truly belonged to him.
