Ministry's Centennial Celebration
|
Open Post Conley arrived to the gala alone, dressed in a charcoal gray suit with a soft berry colored tie that his fiancé had picked out for him. Frankly, Conley felt a little underdressed, but that was probably because the man was used to wearing 20 layers of clothing. This particular outfit was missing about 15 layers to Conley’s liking. Tugging on his cufflinks and shrugging his shoulders he entered the Atrium and paused to look around. It was nice to be at a party like this without his people having to arrange any of it and quite frankly, whomever did arrange it had done quite the job. His eyes traveled to the table holding the silent auction items and his stomach roiled. Ugh, why had he agreed to let himself be auctioned off? It wasn’t exactly like his job was interesting or anything. And it hadn’t been like Sachin had been very helpful with finding a way for Conley to get out of it. Nope, instead his fiancé had been all-to-happy to offer Conley up for ‘a good cause.’ Huffing, Conley headed off to find something to drink. This night was going to require booze. |
*Snags Conley* Daisy was excited about attending a gala but she was also experiencing some jitters as this was her first time at the Ministry. She was wearing a dark purple dress that fell just past her knees and a pair of dark purple heels. Daisy spotted the silent auction table and put in her bids. After all, she was going to help her beloved former school in any way she could. Once that was completed, she spotted a dark-haired man getting something to drink. He looked rather irritated so the young woman nervously approached him. "Er...hello there. My name's Daisy Swann." |
*plops Airey and Charles here first* Airey Flamsteed was having serious flashbacks this evening. This was not the first time he was being put up for auction in this manner and he still wasn't entirely sure what had possessed him into agreeing to it again. Perhaps it was the different setting and the fact that the previous stint had been over a decade ago? Though it was interesting that the purpose was, yet again, to assist Hogwarts. Only all that was complete rubbish and he knew precisely why he had willingly volunteered when the Minister had sought for volunteers. Donning one of his white suits for the occasion, the Mysteries head decided to grab himself a bubbly before making his way around to the auction tables to see all the wares properly. He had not fully been a part of the discussion there, being far too busy with other matters to pay this portion of the planning much mind. He supposed Medea would finish her mingling and be around to encourage the bidding soon enough. Charles Hollingberry was positively over the MOON this evening. The man was almost always a jovial one when it came to public appearances, but tonight he was exceptionally so. The start of a new working year at the Ministry as well as the turn of the century? It truly was a monumental moment and the Ministry hosting a gala for a good cause truly the icing on the cake. While the Hogwarts situation still needed to find his official resolve, he had been mulling over an idea or two that he wished to run by Kendra involving some modifications to emergency portkeys. But not this evening. Upon making a quick stop by the silent auction tables and placing more than a few bets of his own, the Minister meandered his way back over to the arrival area to greet the arrivals. "Conley, good to see you my boy," he greeted the man with two firm hands on either one of his shoulders as his twinkling blue eyes next fell on the young woman beside him. "And a good evening to you as well, Miss Swan." |
Merlin’s saggy baggy pants…people were actually bidding on things! Grrreeeatt…. Conley forced himself to look away from the bidding table and snagged the first drink he could find. He sent up a silent prayer – but for what, Conley wasn’t sure. On one hand, he didn’t want to have to deal with someone trailing him around work. On the other hand, it would be incredibly embarrassing not to even receive a single bid. Text Cut: Daisy About to take a drink, a young lady approached him. He lowered his glass and forced out his best smile. Time to earn that paycheck, he told himself. It wasn’t that he didn’t like mingling and parties. In fact he was looking forward to some dancing. He just wasn’t all that excited about being auctioned off like a prize winning sow at a country fair. ”Ms. Swan, pleasure to meet you. Conley Phora,” he offered her a hand to shake. ”Care for a drink?” he motioned to the bar behind him. Text Cut: Charles Again about to drink, Conley stopped as two hands clamped down on his shoulders. He shifted the glass away from himself just in time to stop some of the liquid from spilling on this suit coat. ”Minister,” Conley greeted, feeling that familiar large lump of guilt plop into his stomach. His face, however kept up his pleasant smile. ”You’re people did a fantastic job with the decorations.” He waved his hand around, to indicate the room, then stuck it back into his pocket. The other held his drink loosely in front of him. Conley had been about to introduce Ms. Swan to Charles, when the minister addressed her as well. |

Daisy smiled at the British Minister of Magic. "Good evening, Minister. The decorations look really beautiful. I look forward to meeting and getting to know everyone here." Quote:

Open post :) Alba was more nervous than she thought she would be. It was her first job in the ministry after all. After graduating from Hogwarts she had immediately went to work in the muggle world in order to be closer to her boyfriend ... whelp ... after nearly 10 years see how well that worked out for her...... Moving on ... Alba caught herself in her own mind constantly thinking of her regrets from those years. But none the less with a smile on her face and a bounce her step, ready to make new friends and be the best darn HR employee in the wizarding world to! If only she knew literally anyone it would make this first day just a little bit better. |
Quote:
If she could make just one friend, tonight would be a success. Well, that and if she doesn’t end up spending money she technically doesn’t have yet too. That would be great. Looking around, her eyes caught several things at once from the all-you-can-eat dessert buffet to the platinum balloons before they finally caught sight of someone standing alone. Summoning the little courage, she had, he walked over, doing her best not to fall and gave the woman he friendliest of smiles. “Have you seen the all-you-can-eat dessert buffet? It looks amazing” |

“Why thank you! Honestly, I wasn’t sure if it was a little much. I’m Delyth” she replied, holding her own slim hand out now to shake her new friends’ hand. "Have you worked here long?” |
hello, hi, we're here Something about this decor reminded Emilia of her parents' lavish holiday parties and she couldn't help but smile as she offered her warm winter jacket to the wizard at the coat check, revealing the dress her mum had insisted on buying her for this occasion. If there's one thing Emilia knew, it was that you didn't argue with Martina Espinosa when it came to fashion. Besides, it was easy enough to agree. It wasn't often the young YATI could be found looking so dolled up, and she liked having an excuse to do so. She felt good, things were good, and she was happy to be back to work, putting the things of the previous year far in the past. Looking around, the brunette didn't immediately see anyone she knew, so she decided to go claim a chair at one of the empty tables. A home base was always good and she hoped to spy some familiar faces once she was settled. Did someone say silent auction? Mariana was most looking forward to that, talk of what had been discovered at Hogwarts still fresh in her mind. It had been scary enough when they'd gone, nearly losing several members of the small team in the mist. She couldn't imagine having been there when the children had been uncovered. It broke her heart. Honestly, anything she could do to help support getting that school back up and running was something she could get behind. Moving past the fountain, the botanist offered a friendly smile to the few people she knew and headed for the long tables that housed the different items she could bid on. |
Feel free to snag any of them ^_^ Lucas Hawthorne was definitely interested in the auction. It was for this reason that he found his way away from the dance floor and dining tables. Naturally, it was the brooms that attracted the Quidditch Division Head’s attention; he wanted to secure one of the for his nephew. The Moontrimmer was what he had in mind and he had talked it over with his wife; Tallie had agreed and wanted to contribute half of the amount towards the bid. Lucas took one of the forms and filled out the necessary information before slipping it into the box. He sincerely hoped he would be winning this beauty. “MINISTER HOLLINGBERRY!” All dressed up in a white strap dress that hugged her curves with white heels, Megan Baines- Koizumi beamed heartily as she made her way over to the man. She had been taken with him since the very first time they had met. He was quite the old fox and she liked that! No, no. Megan wasn’t interested in him in that way; she was into ladies- one, in fact: Yuna Koizumi. "How are you?’’ the blond asked upon reaching him. “Great event so far, I’ve got to say.’’ Sachin had arrived after Conley for reasons but the Ambassador was here, nevertheless. He had gotten himself a drink and afterwards, tried to get to the silent auction. Tried being the key word here because he happened to run into quite a few friends: other Ambassadors and persons whom he knew from the British Ministry. It was one of the Brits he happened to be chatting with, absently tapping the ring on his left hand, when he saw Conley with the Minister. Sachin tried not to stare at Conley because really… the Department Head really did look extra handsome in that suit. Then again, Sachin had done a good job picking out said suit. |
Open to anyone! I'd love to meet some new fraaands :) It wasn't often that Grae Fairfield had a chance to get all dressed up. So naturally, upon hearing the news of the Ministry Centennial celebration, the young witch had started looking for the perfect outfit. She had settled on a rose gold sequin dress, which she accessorized with a white belt, silver-threaded tights, and black booties. Leaving her white fuzzy coat at the coat check, she surveyed the atrium. They certainly had transformed the place, hadn't they? Not spotting anyone from her department yet, she perused the auction table, her eyes pausing for an extra moment on the Moontrimmer Dlite. Now that was a fancy broom. Noticing two young women (Alba & Delyth) that she hadn't met before, she decided to exercise some of her social skills. It couldn't hurt to meet some more coworkers tonight, right? She approached them with a smile. "Couldn't help but overhear you gals talking about dessert! That treacle tart looks divine," she said with a laugh. Food was always a good way to segue into a conversation. "I'm Grae Fairfield, Transportation! Nice to meet you both." She extended her hand warmly. Ryder Medina was not a huge fan of social gatherings. Sure, he enjoyed hanging out with his close friends every once in awhile. But large, formal occasions? Definitely not his thing, especially when he didn't know anyone. He figured it would probably look pretty bad if he didn't show up though, taking into consideration that he was a brand new hire. Brushing his hand over his navy blue suit as he entered the atrium, he took in the scene. Not really knowing what else to do, he grabbed a glass of champagne. It seemed like everyone else was eating or drinking something anyway. Shoving his other hand in his pocket, he headed toward the outskirts of the room. He supposed he would have to introduce himself to some coworkers at some point this evening. |
Both charries are open! Giovanni was delighted to hear that the Ministry was holding a centennial celebration. Now what did centennial mean again? He should ask his sister once he got back home, she was a walking dictionary. He walked slipped into the room, wearing a dark red suit he had bought just for the event. He carefully observed the atrium. They had certainly transformed this place. Platinum balloons and streamers, blimey. Imagine this was the decor from now on. It would certainly be interesting. He noticed that there was a bid going on. He observed the items carefully. He didn't fill the form though. Those stuff were just a waste of money. What were the odds you could win anything? Another thing to ask his sister; she was the genius of the family after all. Katrina didn't exactly want to attend this 'Cetennial Celebration', whatever that meant. It meant she had to socialise, and she hated socialising. She came anyway, as she thought it would be impolite if she didn't, with her being a new employee as well. She decided she would keep socialising to a minimum though, with a few talks now and again; she didn't want to come across as rude. She slipped into the atrium in a sparkly red dress that reached her ankles. She wore a white belt at her waist and beautiful white shoes to match. She noticed the bidding and immediately took a form and filled it in. She was the kind of person that loved these stuff. She bidded for a lot of the things on the form. Once she was done, she slipped the form into the enchanted box. After that, she decided to walk around a bit. She kept to the outskirts of the room. Because she was not looking at where she was going, she ended up bumping into someone (Ryder) who seemingly had the same mindset of not wanting to be here. "Es tut-", she started off in German, and then realised that this was the British Ministry of Magic. She quickly added, "I'm so zorry." Her German accent appeared a bit there as she was speaking. |
Dante is open, and we're joining Emilia with Frankie. :) While many had likely made resolutions for the New Year, the Senior Obliviator was still very French in spite of living in Britain for a handful of years. Gazing around the space, Dante had to admit more effort had been put into this little party; however, it all was still rather subpar to him. The look on his face was proof enough that he wasn't impressed in the slightest. His face remained deadpan while browsing at the silent auction items. This was, of course, out of pure curiosity. Throwing away Galleons was not on his agenda, and, unsurprisingly, none of the items piqued his interest. Brooms were a waste, ice cream was unhealthy, his clothes came directly from France, and he had no need for stationary or fireworks. Only the paintings were worth considering, though only a few moments were spent looking at them before turning away – they just weren't his style. But it took everything within him to not roll his eyes at the last series of 'items.' The Parisian simply read through the names and blankly blinked. "Un peu désespéré," he muttered under his breath. And all this to support Hogwarts? Was the school lacking funds as well as its own castle? How sad, how very sad indeed. ~~~ Did someone say all-you-can-eat dessert buffet? Frankie didn't need to be told twice! With a newborn at home in addition to the other mini-him and Hadleigh's running about, the blond was not one to pass up food ... or a nap ... or something that would give him an adrenaline rush for a few hours. But food was a priority right now for the Auror, so the buffet was his first stop. Within a matter of minutes, he had a full plate of just desserts at hand. He then meandered over to the seating area and looked around for any familiar faces, unashamedly sneaking a bit or two of a random dessert item from his plate. He of course recognised Minister Hollingberry and "Pretty impressive shindig they've set up this year, isn't it?" he commented, setting the dessert plate on the table and unashamedly taking a plate containing non-dessert food from a server (he could already hear Hady scolding him in his mind for even considering eating dessert first). After popping some food into his mouth, he then asked the YATI, "How was your holiday?" |
Open post but also we said hi to Dante ^0^ Jonathan considered not making it to today's party because last night he didn't feel well. After 2 cups of tea and some honey he woke up feeling so much better and ready. Besides it has been awhile since he last stepped foot in the ministry-- he was rather excited about going to back to work. For now, of course it's time to meet new people, enjoy and eat some good food. Jonathan made his way inside the and walked towards the table first. His eyes wandered in the array of food set on the table. Plus he heard that there will be an auction for later... and how fun is that going to be? He is still thinking about what he could purchase. He was walking around the room and found the items that will be auctioned for today. Jonathan took a deep breath and just when he was about to move back he heard the man(Dante) next to him mumble. He didn't hear much of it nor he minded it at all. Jonathan looked at him and gave a welcoming smile. Yeah, why not. "Are you joining the auction for later?" he asked. |
Aaaaaairey but we see our MLE peeps, too ;) Let it be known that Minister Hollingberry was a piece of work. It started out as pleasant enough requests to be auctioned off to any old idiot and turned into a full on reminder about job expectations when she’d vehemently refused. She didn’t have the time or the patience to babysit someone for the whole day. It was Law Enforcement, not the Minister’s Office. She’d have to either work harder to make sure whoever it was didn’t outright DIE or stay in office and find herself dying her own slow and painful death. There was no winning. Alexa cringed noticeably at the sight of her name on the “items list” once Emm managed to tug her over to the auction table. In hindsight, she should’ve offered to get the food and let Fox take her to come look. Better yet, she should have left her at her grandfather’s despite the severe water works but when your kid nearly gets eaten by acromantulas, you give them the small comforts to make them feel safe. She just hopped her husband went all out for them at the dessert table. For now, she turned her attention to her auction table company (Airey) , pointedly ignoring the 8 year old and her constant “Mummy look, it’s your name, look, looook! Look! Mummmyyyyy!” “You don’t think we’ll really have to go through with those Department Head auctions, do you?” Somehow, depending on who bought the astronut, Alexa couldn’t see Airey being much happier with the outcome. Across the room at the food tables, she spotted a few of her employees. (Frankie and Emilia). They both got a nod. She’d have to remember to stop by later in the evening. Medina, too. Always good to get the new meat oriented. |
Anyone feel free to jump in on this conersation with Grae and Alba Quote:
Casting a quick glance around, she couldn’t help but notice the room was beginning to fill up now as more and more witches and wizards filled the atrium. Quashing the feeling of intimidation that was gradually building in her, she had finally decided to treat herself and bid for something in the auction. Next question…what should she bid for or rather, what can she afford? “Are you girls going to bid on anything?” she asked to the two lovely women standing by her (Grae and Alba). |
Text Cut: Daisy Conley reached for what appeared to be a ginger ale mixed with blackberries and had a sprig of lavender sticking out of it. He’d seen his fiancé drink something like it before and figured it had to be a decent mocktail. Passing it over to Daisy, he smiled. 18 years old? Lord, he felt so old. Did he look that old? ”Alcohol can take a little getting used to and is best done in small doses.” And now he sounded like a grandfather giving a lecture. Great… Thankfully Daisy asked a question so Conley could sound less like an old fart and more like an informed person. ”Things of this.” he waved a hand around the room. ”Nature aren’t the usual. But the ministry usually does something for our employees in January. Last year, we had a bowling tournament. But it’s only the turn of a century once in a hundred years. Seemed like a good excuse to throw a gala.” They were a little more common for Conley as he was expected to accompany the Minster when he went on formal visits to other countries, but as exciting as that may sound, they were usually quite dull and stuffy. Text Cut: Sachin <3 As Daisy and the minister chatted, Conley’s gaze swept the room. His eyes landed on Sachin and he head to hide a small smile by taking a sip of his drink. Conley was certain he would be able to pick Sachin out of a crowd of a million. There was something about the man that drew Conley to him like the poles drew a compass point. However, knowing the Minister was nearby, Conley shifted his gaze away and found his gaze lingering on Alexa. He fought the urge to sigh or frown and took another sip of his wine. Reports of visa and identity thefts hadn’t gone away since he had attempted to talk to Alexa about it. In fact, the reports have seemed to increase. And at some point, Conley was going to have to be the bigger person and go talk to her…again. Maybe this time, it wouldn’t end with them both wanted to hex the other person. Text Cut: Ryder ”Alréady 'eadeng fair le shadows?” Valentin asked as a gentleman walked past him. Sure-lee zumone as 'andzum as you camé wiv an escort?”The French Ambassador had been roaming around the room, glass of champagne in hand and frankly he was quite bored. As the young man had passed, Vale couldn’t help but notice his handsome features looked a bit dour. ” Zumone to dance wiv?” he waved his empty hand towards the dance floor. Valentin was, by nature a shameless flirt. It of course, only made things more amusing to him that the gentleman he was bantering with looked a little bit uncomfortable in this environment. Adam was sporting a new look. A fresh emerald green suit (with a pair of socks that matched), and big black horned-rimmed glasses with lenses like coke-bottles. He would have rather not worn them, as they gave him an immense headache, but the healers had insisted he had to give himself time to adjust. So here he was, alone, looking like a giant bug. He patted his inner jacket pocket where his support cane was stashed just in case he needed it. He had mentioned the event to Zita, but after last year’s bowling fiasco, he would be very, very surprised if she came. There was also the fact that he didn’t know if they were dating or just friends or what. Every time he tried to discuss it, something seemed to prevent them from discussing it further. He had a feeling she was over him, if she had even ever been interested in the first. But he wasn’t exactly sorry that he wasn’t the type to jump into things. No, Adam hadn’t even realized he liked her that way until a month or two ago. So solo, and extremely hard of seeing, Adam ventured into the Atrium. He just hoped the night wouldn’t end with him covered in pudding. Text Cut: Mariana He had kept to the outsides of the room, as they were less cluttered looking and had headed towards a table. Because surely a table would have food or drinks on it, right? Only as he neared, he didn’t smell anything food or drink related. Adam pulled the big coke bottle glasses off his face and rubbed at his eyes for a moment as he fought with the frustration that was trying to overtake him. He was finding that he was more often getting frustrated and depressed and he knew he needed to fight the feelings. His eyesight would come back, at least to a functioning level. He had to keep telling himself that. He put his glasses back on and noticed a young lady nearby. ”Excuze me, can vou point me tovards zee food table?” he asked in his heavy German accent. |
SPOILER!!: Frankie "It's something," Emilia commented with a smile, looking around the room at the decor. They really had gone all out, hadn't they? "The Minister must be happy with the way it turned out." These things took quite some time to plan, she was sure, and the result this time around was elegant and inviting. The food smelled amazing, and though she was tempted to do as her colleague had done and get dessert before dinner, the server arriving made the decision for her. Probably healthier that way, too. She was back on her training schedule and that meant clean eating after tonight. Best to ease herself into that. "It was nice being home. My dad and I are close, so it was good to catch up with him and spend some time together." She'd gotten quality time with mum, too, but her father traveled for work, so she couldn't always count on him being available for mirror calls and letters like she could with her mother. "How was yours?" Spotting Alexa as she took a bite of her food, she offered the department head a return nod of the head in greeting. SPOILER!!: Adam Oh my, those glasses were something. Mariana watched as the man's expression changed from that of confusion to frustration and she felt quite bad, wondering what he'd expected to find. She would've moved towards him to help if he hadn't approached, truth be told, and she was happy to assist. "I'm afraid that's on the other side of the room. It looks like the actual meal is being served to everyone at the round tables, and there seems to be a dessert buffet if you'd like to help yourself to any of that." She eyed him for a moment, wondering if that had been too much information. "Just past the dance floor and you'll find what you're looking for." |
SPOILER!!: Grae and Delyth And with that another woman had joined them, and desserts were certainly a hot topic of the night. These were women she could jive with Alba loved sweets. "Nice to meet you both." She added shaking hands with everyone. "Alba Johnston, Human Resource Office" She added, seemed to be the thing to do, tell people what department you worked in. Alba wondered how many departments there were in the ministry. "Not sure if I'll bid, I don't have much Wizard gold on me, I have to exchange my muggle money." Alba added, thinking it was going to be strange to be carrying galleons, sickles, and knuts again, rather than pounds. "But the auction does look like fun." She added. |
Dante for Jonathan, and Frankie for Emilia and briefly Alexa Though he had no intentions on placing a bet on anything, he still continued to look at the items. The blank look remained on his face, which surely contrasted that of the others that were looking around. Being out in public, it was nonetheless important that he at least appeared to be browsing. So the man gave that list of department heads another read while internally pitying the scenarios that were bound to come from the auction as a result. Auctioning oneself for money, for charity, was such a strange concept to him. It seemed rather tacky. Dante's attention was suddenly pulled away from the items before him. This he welcomed, though he wouldn't say he was pleased about it. Socialising just for the sake of it was a waste, or so his father had raised him to believe. But, even so, he had to remind himself of the British way of doing things – the feelings of others were important, and not everything was done strictly for business purposes. He blinked twice, taking in the sight of the man who had spoken to him, before providing a response. "Joining the auction? No. Nothing here that's really of personal interest," Dante stated rather honestly. "Yourself, Monsieur...?" ~~~ "I can imagine he is. Seems like it," he commented, casting a quick glance over at the Minister before slipping a forkful of food into his mouth. "At least the food is making quite a statement this year," Frankie added as an extra detail after swallowing and diving his fork toward his plate to get another mouthful of nutritious delicacies. While Emilia shared the details of her holiday with her family, the blond continued to fill his face (an Auror has to eat, after all) and he nodded his head at all the right moments. "Sounds like a good time." There was a brief pause as a slipped a spoon into his mouth and chewed on whatever had been scooped up. It was at this time he caught Alexa nodding at them, which he politely returned with a nod of his own. Following a big gulp, the utensil in his hand was set on his plate. "My holiday was excellent, actually. Had a nice Christmas with the family, and then my wife went into labor on New Years Eve and we brought a little girl into the world shortly after midnight struck." At this point Frankie was beaming as he pulled out a picture from his wallet that featured the new babe, Hady, and his three other children. |
For Ro-la Jessa had the best outfit on. It was not weird, she was positive of it. Yeah, it didn't fit the season and it was less formal than one would think but it was all due to perspective. The important thing is that she loved it. Duncan loved it. And Fletcher loved it, although how one would know if he was just humoring her?? She walked into the party alongside her 'boyfriend' and their son, whose hand was tightly in hers. He was not to be trusted running around freely in his father's new job shindig! "I don't remember ever coming into the ministry before," Jessa said out loud to Fletcher. Duncan already trying to break free of her grip. "Oh, look, there's a silent auction! Is this the one for poor Hogwarts?" They must go and help. Well, Fletcher. He had way more money than her, ahem. "Stop wiggling, no cake if you keep wiggling. I swear." This was to Duncan, not Fletcher. Although Fletcher WOULD lose his cake privileges if he misbehaved too. "I wanna go see what's over there," Duncan whined, still trying to break free. He was meaning the around surrounding the dining tables and dance floor. He just wanted to see if access to the offices was available or not. No big deal. "I won't do anything, I swear! I'll just walk and look." WIGGLE WIGGLE. |
Lucy is here as well! Quote:
Lucy had entered the gala, adorned in a crimson dress that barely reached her knees and a pair of red heels. Her trademark scarlet lips grinned at everyone as she fetched herself a glass of champagne. She thought about bidding in this silent auction. Maybe a date would be fun. |
Open Caleb walked inside the room and took in his surroundings. He was never one to talk to people so he glanced arond and headed to the desert buffet. He loved the decorations in here. Was this still the same place? |
