Biochemkris' Crafty Corner

I wanted to get the ball rolling with these threads so, I don't have much yet but, I'd like to show off one my first HP projects which was a Slytherin Quilt I made for EmmaRiddle. I made the pattern up myself and once I find it and type it up, I'll probably post it for others to use (I had planned on creating all four houses but, I got pregnant and moved and don't have the space for quilting anymore).

Nice use of colours and patterns. Looks really cool!

I want one too! :o
great quilt!

marfamarfa 10-12-2007 04:50 PM

Wow! That's beautiful! Is it hand-pieced and sewn, or did you use a sewing machine?

Biochemkris 10-12-2007 11:53 PM

Oh, I definitely used a sewing machine (you can see part of it in the background tee hee). I wouldn't be patient enough not to use a sewing machine.

scarlet5890 10-13-2007 01:01 AM

That is a really neat quilt!

DeathEater24601 10-13-2007 01:32 AM

cutestar 10-13-2007 08:13 AM

Great work!!!That's an awesome talent to have, to make the pattern by yourself and all

the.time.is.now 10-13-2007 02:57 PM

Oh my gosh, Kris, are you serious? Tha't s awesome! I used to loveeee to do stuff like this, and that quilt's inspiring me to pick it up again.

Did you ever give it to Emma? Luckyface. *pokes*

Biochemkris 10-14-2007 03:51 AM

Yes, I did give it to her. In person, even. She says she uses it a lot. :D

seekeraim 10-14-2007 04:33 AM

Gorgeous! Great job on it. How long did it take you to sew it all up.

Awesomeness. I wish I could do quilts like that. My mom knows how, but she doesn't like to make things for me unless it's absolutely important xDD

Pigwidgeon Took 10-14-2007 05:03 AM

That amazes....

Taking Back Kirstie 10-14-2007 08:59 AM

Slytherin Fox 10-14-2007 11:12 PM

Oh gosh, I can't really remember right now. The design took a while but, once I had that I used some of my mother in-law's tricks so it didn't take too long to piece together.

Mary Ann's Tips: To make a lot of those smaller blocks I sewed long strips of the two colors together and then just cut the strips up to create the blocks. Then, when you do triangles, you just make a center line on a block and sew to either side of the line, then cut down the line to create two blocks of two triangles. It doesn't seem like it would save much time but, it really does (especially when you're doing a lot of them).

I do have a pattern. It's in my closet with the pieces for my own Slytheirn quilt that I was going to make after I got back from visiting Emma. Needless to say, it's still just bits and pieces. I'll try and get it typed up for you after I finish this crochet poncho I'm working on for my grandmother's 80th birthday. :)

Princesspotter1234 10-15-2007 04:02 PM

Wow!!!That is just so awesome,Kris.
My mom and my grandma are very good at this sort of thing, but I am rubbish at it.I wish i could do something this good, though!!!
I'm going to tell my mom to make me a gryffindor one like this.

That is amazing. There are no other words. And I must say I have a great respect for Slytherin now that I've been on this site.

It's just beautiful. :D

Love the quilt, love the cloak! Awesome work, Kris! This is so innovative!

Krissy Moon 11-24-2007 07:56 AM

Man Kris! you are an inspiration! Now I want to take up quilting along with the eleven million other crafty things I do!

i m a potter fool ^_^ 12-06-2007 09:50 AM

Wow! Awesome stuff, Kris! I wish I had the patients to sew like that. I was talking to Jan about this too- I usually start a sewing (or knitting) project, then sticking to it for a week or two, then forget about it and move to doing a different project. [xd]
Fantastic job indeed, I really love the quilt!

Mrs_Molly_Weasley 01-09-2008 12:45 AM

Cool stuff!! I really Like them

Ladybug 01-09-2008 04:09 PM

I think it looks really cool

Droo 01-09-2008 04:32 PM

Quilt: HOT! *makes notes to make one for herself*

Cloak: Even hotter!!! I made mine too, but only lines the hood and the sleeves. When a friend of mine saw mine, she said to me. "You should unstitch the lining, and put snaps on it, so you can switch it out if you wanna play a Gryffindor, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff..." I thought it was a great idea, although I didn't but you may want to thinking about that.

My secret is to never start something that will take longer than a few days. Projects that take longer tend to not get finished.

But, who would want to play anything other than a Slytherin?

Little Trooper 01-17-2008 07:23 AM

Love the cloak. it is awsome. You are so handy.

Becky 04-20-2008 02:16 PM

Kris: I would :D
Cloak: That would look great in Yellow :shifty:
Quilt: I love it :) Maybe a little Yellow and a H in the middle, and it will be perfect

Godfrey Peverell 04-21-2008 05:40 PM

OOOOooooo, love the quilt...looks like I need to start pestering my wife to make one... ;-)

Biochemkris 04-22-2008 01:25 PM

Actually, Mrs D Tennent, after designing the Slytherin quilt I'd planned on designing one for each house but, just never got around to it (in fact, that quilt was for EmmaRiddle and the second one I started for me is still in pieces in a box in my closet - I really should get around to finishing it).

Anyone who wants to play a Hufflepuff! :shifty:

Great work Kris!! I love both the quilt and the cloak! *is with Nabs and Zoe on wanting the Hufflepuff one* okay, just kidding. maybe.

They are both great though.

BreBear 05-09-2008 03:22 AM

That quilt really does look brilliant. The cloak does as well. I wish I was remotely talented @ cool little things like that. However, the fact remains that I'm not. lol.

Biochemkris 05-18-2008 01:42 PM

I'm proud of this (even if the blue ran when I washed it according to the manufacturer's directions) so, I'm reposting it from CRAFT Challenge #3

The crochet part of this is finished, though once I have time to actually to go to a store and look at fabric, I'll line it. I used the graph from this knitting pattern and crocheted the bag in the round using single crochet, size 3 cotton thread and a size 0 steel hook (or you can use a size E hook since they're both 3.25mm (I think that's right might be 3.5), I just don't have an E). Because the size 3 thread is so small I went back up to the strap and added 3 more rows of half-double crochet to give it a bit more thickness.

marfamarfa 06-09-2008 04:47 AM

Wow! This bag is pretty awesome. I would like to learn how to crochet. Is it hard to do?

ebony_wandson 09-09-2008 11:08 AM

Wow Kris, just wow!

That quilt is just so beautiful, lucky Em.

I have always wanted a patched quilt and a Potter one would be the icing on the cake.

I've never done anything like quilting. How hard is it? Any sort of noob guide i could look at?

You are so very talented :D
