SPOILER!!: Mariel ^^ Gavin was still turning his options over and over in his mind. If he was being honest, it shouldn't have taken that long, he was dragging his feet. It wasn't something he took and made a habit of but every now and then he sought a bit of time wasting for himself while inadvertently wasting the time of others. Emily knew that from first hand experience and it usually happened right after he'd accomplished a fair bit before his break. It was almost like a licence to waste time, if only a little. He cast a look to the woman at her question. "....No. She didn't." Gavin responded simply. "But wouldn't that have made it easier." He commented with a light shrug. A lot of things were easier when you knew what you were looking for. That was a standard rule. The man reached for the cookies but paused at her reasoning. It made a lot more sense when she worked it out aloud the way she did. "Fruit toppings. Natural sugar." He was approving of this already. Gavin nicked a slice of the cheesecake from the table and glanced around for the fruits. Further up. Why were there so many people ahead of him. Couldn't he have any kind of special cutting privileges? It wasn't easy delivering mankind's greatest gift on a daily basis. Some appreciation would be nice. Deciding to own up to getting himself in this long waiting line in the first place he figured he'd remember his manners while he waited. "Thanks...er......? I don't think I caught your name." |
SPOILER!!: Gavin Smiling a bit as the man really did seem to take her well-thought advice this time, the brunette decided on the same, almost as if she had talked herself into it while making up this man's mind for him. "I think that will work for me as well actually," she mused after he took a slice of the cheesecake, then she did the same before following his line of vision. So, even after Mr. Indecisive finally did decide on something she still wasn't getting out of here anytime soon. Good thing she was so good at her job and she was up to date on her paperwork. She supposed she could afford a little more time away from the desk. Mariel frowned a bit in the direction of the line of people blocking the fruit toppings, then turned her attention back to the man again as he addressed her. "No, I suppose not.. I didn't throw it," she said, allowing the hint of an amused smirk to grace her features. "It's Mariel... Morgan, Quidditch Regulations," she offered, figuring it was the professional thing to add her full name and title, still being in the Ministry even if it was a remotely social situation. |
SPOILER!!: Mariel~ Even she agreed life would be much better if Emily had casually mentioned what she preferred eating. As far as he could tell, the woman wasn't picky about food but that wasn't helping him at this second right here now was it? Not at all. Good this woman was here to help him rationalize yet another ridiculous venture. He nodded at her decision to have the cheesecake as well. If he had more of a sweet tooth he might have grabbed a little something for himself as well. And ha ha. Clever response. How very refreshing. Gavin didn't crack at smile despite it being meant to add humour to the situation. You try being social and get smart alec responses that don't really answer anything except the ultimate question of why he didn't try very often. It was another moment before his face relaxed once more and he put on something resembling a smirk. "No...you didn't. Should I be offended?" He had long since moved pass taking anything seriously in the conversation but that didn't mean he couldn't act otherwise. Her name sent little bells ringing in his head almost immediately and the Department she mentioned had them ringing louder. "Mariel? You're Victoria's friend, correct?" The woman had mentioned her once or twice in their conversations from what he could remember. Despite the second-hand familiarity, there was no hand being offered for a shake. That was strictly on a 'need to do' basis. "Gavin Isaacs, Senior Undersecretary." He would have been fine with leaving his title out but she'd added hers and it wasn't as if he was an Unspeakable anymore who would have had a smile and move on from that topic of conversation immediately. If that Department had done nothing else for him, it'd given him a bulletproof excuse for being anti-social. |
SPOILER!!: Gavin ;D And then her smirk sort of faded as he did seem to know her or of her, though maybe not for the reason she might normally expect. Apparently the man knew her coworker and good friend, who had to have mentioned her in conversation for him to have made the connection. Though it was almost as likely he made the assumption from her mentioning where she worked. "Yes.. you know her as well, I'd take it," she began curiously, wondering what exactly went on with these alleged conversations. Until he offered his name as well and something clicked. Allowing the hint of a smirk to return, she said, "Pleasure to meet you Gavin Isaacs. Though I can't help but wonder why the Senior Undersecretary would be playing with love potions.." The curiosity did not come from the experimental aspect of it nor the fact that potions did not seem to be relevant to his position. She could relate on both issues actually. No, it more came from the fact that she never did get the importance or usefulness of love potions. |
SPOILER!!: Lulz Gavin figured that while they stood there waiting he could start looking around for the fruits he'd use to top the cheesecake. His eyes had run into some raspberries before being drawn suddenly back to hers. It was a privilege...? He would wait for her to explain. Something about not giving it to just anyone, huh? Well look at that. Where was Emily to see this? The amused smirk only worsened, giving away the first signs of a new wave of arrogance. "Privilege, no. I think the word you were looking for is expectant." Why shouldn't he expect her name even under the circumstances she mentioned. "I don't know if you've been briefed but I'm the exception to every rule." He wasn't just anyone. He was Gavin Isaacs for Merlin's sake! The obvious was slowly being revealed in this conversation. He gave a firm nod indicating that he did, in fact, know the woman. "I'm of the impression she loves to see me squirm." And there was nothing that would change that. How many times had she pushed buttons just for the heck of it? He saw the look she had when she did too. Clearly enjoying it more than he ever could. If he didn't know any better he would have thought her and Emily had made plans in the very beginning but he did know better...sort of. It came as no surprize to him that she found it a pleasure meeting him. Didn't everyone? Her next statement though, wasn't one he'd been expecting but that didn't mean he didn't have an answer. "Science of course." He figured she was going on about the Amortentia testing just the year before and it was necessary. "The nature of the potion isn't exactly my cup of tea but potions in general are and working down in the Ever-Locked Room doesn't give you much in the way of options." Did that answer that? Oooh blueberries. |
