After receiving my egg that day in class I decided to secure it's safety. Of course, when I am not in the Slytherin Common room I will be carrying my egg in my robe pocket. I thought about putting it inside my trouser pocket, but I was afraid that I might sit on it and dent it. I also secured the egg for sleeping arrangements. Since I am crazy sleeper, I created a box out of cardboard. The box has no top (so I can keep and eye on it) and is layered with cotton, so the egg could be comfortable.
The first obstacle I faced when getting my egg was with my Pygmy Puff, Puff. Puff prefers sleeping inside my robes pocket and when she was replaced by the egg, she almost tipped it off a desk. I guess I have to pay more attention to her too, since she seems to be after revenge against the egg.
Also, the egg hasn't showed much changes in its temperature. There had been a time when I thought it was too hot, but it was just my hand. I had been holding cup of hot chocolate, false alarm. But, the other day while I was supposed to be working on some homework at the Slytherin study tables, I touched the egg to check its temperature, but I was faced with something different. The egg's shell was slippery and it resulted in humidity. So, I performed the Argentum Siccus charm on it and immediately, it returned to its original state.
After that, there hasn't been anymore changes. I'm hoping that the egg won't suddenly decide to heat up during one of my lessons. Later,
Kennedy Escalante Slytherin Study Tables ------------------------------ Entry 2: February 04, 2076 SPOILER!!: Within the Shelves at the Library
After the last incident, the egg has not shown much difference. I've been carrying it with me everywhere, but I worry that in one of the lessons I might fall on it and squish it. That hasn't happened, yet. The time it did worry me the most was during the Transfigurations lesson. We were supposed to work with a team and shoot dummies with two different spells. I ended up hitting the wrong dummy and a horrible odor was realized. I tried running and almost tripped with my own feet. Luckily, I didn't fall and the egg was safe. I'm actually thinking of making a carrier for it, but I'm still not sure.
The other day I was at the library looking for a book on magical creatures. I'm trying to cheat or anything, I just want to have a better understanding of what I am dealing with. Anyway, I was looking for a book when the right side of my robes grew warm. At first I thought it was Puff that had done her business inside my pocket, but it wasn't her. I realized it was the egg that was getting warmer and warmer. So, I performed the Argentum Frigidus charm on it. It cooled down and returned to its original state.
That left me wondering more if this creature has to do something with warmth, like a phoenix. I mean, the first it reacted it had been humid and humidity is sometimes caused because of heat and now, the second reaction. Maybe, its just going through a phase or something. Curious Snake,
Kennedy Escalante Library Bookshelves ------------------------------ Entry 3: March 1, 2076 SPOILER!!: The bonding of Puff and Egg
The progress with the egg has been uneventful. I think this is because it isn't near hatching anytime. When I once visited my mom's homeland, Mexico, my grandmother told me a story about chicken eggs. She said that there was this one time when a coyote killed a chicken that had laid three eggs. Our family needed chickens and so instead of cooking the eggs she cared for them. As time passed the eggs seemed to shake or tremble when they got close to the hatching day. I think the same thing may be happening to this egg.
Maybe it's dormant, that's what I've guessed. The creature inside it isn't strong or big enough to produce heat or coldness. I'm not sure if they relate to chicken eggs in any way, so this is just theory.
Since my last update, Puff has been ignoring the egg. That was a huge relief for me. Today though, she did something that I have completely not expected. It was like if she was bonding with the egg. It was a great scene because now I don't have to worry about Puff harming the egg. Oh yeah, she actually licked the egg. I don't know why, but she just did. I did of course, perform the Excolo charm to polish the egg after that. Now, it's all shiny and tucked inside my pocket. I'm also taking it along with me to Hogsmeade. Maybe a change of place will make it more active. Curious Snake,
Kennedy Courtyard ------------------------------ Entry 4: March 7, 2076 SPOILER!!: Cold Snitch
I was impressed when six days after the egg's last reaction it had reacted again. This time I was sleeping resting in the library while reading an Astronomy book when the egg began to change temperatures. Okay, I have to admit it, I was kind of sleeping and dreaming. Anyway, I was dreaming I caught a snitch and it was cold, but it wasn't the snitch it was the egg. The egg had grown quite cold, not freezing cold, but just water cold. I performed the Argentum Calidus charm which warmed it up.
I thought that that would be the last reaction until a few days later, but I was wrong. Two days later at night I was awoken by my Pygmy Puff. Then I found that she was trying to tell me something about the egg. You see, she has grown this strange attachment to the egg. Anyway, the egg had a faint glow. I know I wasn't imagining things because Puff saw it too. I checked its temperature, but it was okay. It wasn't dry nor humid. I don't know what that means, maybe its a sign that the creature inside it is moving or something like that. Very Curious Snake,
Kennedy Library Reading Lounge ------------------------------ Entry 5: March 15, 2076 SPOILER!!: Egg-quake
Lately, I've been busy with homework and other things, but I still haven't forgotten about the egg. I carry it everywhere with me and keep a close eye on it. I was at the lake when the weirdest thing yet happened. I was reading while laying under a tree, the egg was resting on my chest when suddenly it began trembling. I have to admit it that I was a bit freaked out at first, but when I picked it up, I realized that it was chalky dry. So I used the Argentum Humidus charm on it. After I did that the egg stopped shaking.
I was wondering if maybe the creature inside it is growing bigger that it can actually give signs of when its egg shell needs attention. I'm not sure if this theory is correct, but that's how it seemed to me. This time there was an eight day interval between reactions. They are getting more frequent, I wonder if it'll hatch soon, although I doubt it. Very curious snake,
Kennedy Lake ------------------------------ Entry 6: April 9, 2076 SPOILER!!: Mini Shaking Inferno
The egg is really frustrating at times. There are times when it's shaking like crazy and others when it has a faint glow. What frustrates me is that it shakes a lot during the day while I'm in classes. It's weird having a shaking egg in class and trying to concentrate at the same time. Then it decides to glow during the night when I'm trying to sleep. I think it does it on purpose, but then again an egg can't think for itself...can it? I'm not sure.
Today while I was up at the Owlery it began to get hot and shake. It's heat was a little bit higher than before, not scorching hot, but like warm tea hot. Usually when I perform the spell to either cool it down or something else the shaking stops, but lately not even the charms have stopped it from shaking. I think the creature inside it is trying to talk to me. Is that weird? Maybe, but it's really cool. Very, very curious snake,
Kennedy Owlery ------------------------------ Entry 7: April 13, 2076 SPOILER!!: Accidental Spill
As the thing inside the egg develops everyday its behavior keeps on getting weirder and weirder. The shaking won't stop at all now. There are times that is shakes so hard that it's lucky it has a metal shell. When it's not shaking as much it only vibrates, but its never still. It's glow is also getting brighter, but that only happens when it gets warm, and that usually happens at night. Which is also strange.
Lately, I've kind of become "closer" to the egg. I hate to admit it, but I've become attached to it and I've been thinking; is the creature inside the egg big or small? Dangerous? Would I be able to keep it? Or, is there even a creature in there? I really don't know, but I hope it's real.
I just hope it's not a Kappa or something worse. Very, very, curious snake,
Kennedy Slytherin House Table ------------------------------ Entry 8: April 16, 2076 SPOILER!!: Jumping in the Crib
I thought all the egg was going to do was glow and shake, but it did something completely different today at the library. It was jumping. Since the last time it had reacted I decided that it was best if I used the makeshift crib I made it at the beginning of the project. All the shaking it does has it rolling sometimes that I don't want it to fall and get a dent or something else like hatching prematurely.
As it bounce I also noticed that its glow was stronger and a different color. Usually it's a yellowish color, but today it was grey. For a minute I thought it was just about ready to hatch, but its too early still, right?
Anyway, I hope it doesn't happen at night because it might startle me my roommates. Very, very curious snake,
Kennedy Library Reading Lounge ------------------------------ Entry 9: April 23, 2076 SPOILER!!: Mistaken for Rocks
I have finally given in and named my egg. His name is Hilbert. I know I shouldn't have named it because then I'll grow more attached to it, but its already too late for that. I mean I've practically lived with Hilbert for these past few months and well, I don't think I want to let go.
Enough of that. Lately, Hilbert has been more active. Needing, polishing, warming, cooling, and all sorts of things. He also did what I hoped he wouldn't do. The other night he began to jump in his makeshift crib and glowed brightly in the middle of the night. I have to admit it did startle me and also woke up some of my roommates. That time though, it didn't even need the charm. So, I let it sleep with me and it seem to calm down. It also did the same thing when I was reading by the waterfall. Maybe its ready hatch. Very, very curious snake,
Kennedy Waterfall ------------------------------ Entry 10: May 1, 2076 SPOILER!!: Metal Owl?
This is my last post. Wow, time passed by so soon. Hilbert has been more active now. Maybe he feels that the end is nearing and that he'll hatch very soon? I don't know, but that is how it feels. We we at the Olwery when Hilbert began jumping and shaking and even turned cold. For a minute I had thought that it was excited to be surrounded by owls. Then I thought, well maybe there was a metal owl growing inside the egg? But, I realized that idea is silly.
I've read books and articles of creatures, but so far I've found so much information that I don't know what the thing inside the egg might be, but then again there might not be anything in there. I really hope that there is because I dedicated my time to it and grown to care for it. Whatever hatches from it I promise to take care of it. The End,
Kennedy Escalante Owlery
