So she had both lost a duel and won a duel in the Dueling Club’s tournament for the year, her win even over an older opponent. However Olivia had mixed feelings over her earning of that feather In her cap. Kitty at least was fine and up to competing in a new duel while the first year Ravenclaw was back being paired up with a year mate. One Slytherin girl named Mason that she mostly just saw in passing during lessons. Which meant there was a decent chance that they were on a relatively even playing field in this match.
Olivia preferred it that way.
Making her way to the dueling platform, her required protection secure and her wand within reach, Olivia paid attention to the girl across from her. “Good luck…” she offered her opponent before taking her spot and bowing in polite respect. Her wand was in her grasp once she had straightened up to her full short height. And then after a few moments of thinking on how to begin, the Ravenclaw first year took aim with a Stinging Hex directed at Mason.
Let the duel begin.

Mason strutted into the Duelling Area with an air of confidence about her. She was feeling a lot more self-assured in her magical abilities since winning her previous match.
She was duelling another First Year in her duel, one she had never met before. Mason preferred it that way, it was a lot easier to duel someone who you didn't feel anything for.
She made her way up to the platform, her partner was already waiting for her. Ah, this one seemed quite prepared. That should have made Mason a little bit nervous, but she was prepared as well. After her win, she had made sure to practice her butt off and tried her best to perfect her spells. So she had a few tricks up her sleeves.
She gave the girl, Olivia, a broad smile and bowed accordingly. The girl was fast, sending a Stinging Hex right at her. Mason snatched her wand from its holster and cast Protego, blocking the spell. Mason gave a little huff. This girl wasn't playing around. . . well, neither was Mason.
Mason's tactic was going to be the same as the one in her previous duel, since it had worked last time. Raising the Yew, Mason said the incantation, "Mucus ad Nauseam!" .
She was done playing.

•Protego:
Creates a shield against MINOR spells (jinxes, hexes and curses), and sends them in rebound to the original caster (i.e. Shield Charm)
◦Additional Effects: If spell being defended against is deflected back at the opponent (and is successful) the opponent takes the damage of the returned spell.
Directionality: At Olivia's spell
Curse of the Bogies (Mucus ad Nauseam):
Causes the target to have a head cold and extremely runny nose

Her spell was blocked by a shield but at least it had worked. Or was successfully cast at least. She had been having trouble lately and had been really hoping it wouldn’t affect her dueling. So far so good. Was that a huff from the other girl? It wasn’t like Olivia was going to go down easy if she went down. She would be giving it all and hoping there wasn't an injury this time around. But her attention was fully on Mason as she awaited the return volley. Her partner didn’t disappoint, briefly registering what she thought the spell sent her way would have caused had she not moved out of the way to avoid it.
And then she was retaliating with her own spell for round two. “Levicorpus!” she cast, taking aim at the other girl once more with an upward flick. That was at least she had known she could get and had been practicing more. The greenish light headed in Mason’s direction and Olivia waited to see what would happen.

Damnit!
Well, at least she was putting up a fight. . . that made this a little bit more entertaining.
This wasn't going too baaddddddd- nevermind. Mason had been too slow in avoiding the spell. And now SHE WAS UPSIDE DOWN!!!
Oh sweet Merlin. She really hated being in the air, and she hated hovering. Adding upside-down to the whole mix. . . she wasn't having a brilliant time. But she had to win this duel!
So Mason swallowed her impending vomit, closed her eyes and focused on her spell. Luckily her wand had remained in her hand, so YAY for that. She took aim at one of her own air-borne legs, "Descendo!"
And then she was falling. Mason really liked her head not split-open, so she raised her wand again and cast the Cushioning Charm.
The fall still hurt as hell, but at least she was still alive, so there was that. Staggering to her feet, Mason let out a growl, "Is that the best you got?"
She was angry now, and Angry Mason was aggressive. . . and being aggressive was something she was very good at. You're going down, Stone.
She raised her wand in a flash motion and cast the spells rapidly after the other. First came the Stinging Hex, if it hit her, good. Of it didn't, so what, at least it was a distraction for her next one. Mason aimed the Switching Spell at Olivia's face, intending to switch her ears and her eyes. That would make seeing and hearing her A LOT more difficult. Which would make beating her A LOT more difficult. *Insert feral-smirk here*
No one messes with Mason Stevens. Unless your name is Murdoch.

While one of the duellists had a clever approach about her, the other one seemed all too confident in that they would win.
Hirsch couldn't help but raise his eyebrows at the strutting, a small smile threatening to spread itself across his lips. He liked seeing confidence, sure, as long as it wasn't to the point of arrogance. What was interesting in all of this, however, was the fact that this level of confidence was displayed in someone so young. Maybe that was what was going to help her?
It certainly seemed to work, that was for sure. The confidence seemed to be helping her with her spell casting but Olivia Stone certainly wasn't going to give up without a fight. All in all, it was a good fight. It was simply a shame that the duel had to be cut short by the time limit. Reminder to set a longer one next time? That would be a good idea.
As for this duel, the shield was up and he headed out onto the platform. A flick of his wand and any last remaining effects of spells were gone. The last thing he needed were complaints from the Healer or the Headmistress or from concerned parents. "Well done on putting up a great fight. Both of you. That was a great display of spellwork." Really. "As it stands, Miss Stevens, you've taken the lead in this duel. Congratulations! And well done on your display of magic, Miss Stone."
