J.K. Rowling had so much of a personal hand in the creation of every element of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park attractions that she had all the foods sold at The Three Broomsticks sent over to her Edinburgh home for tasting back in March.
The author had the Universal Studios chefs bring over all the menu items - including bangers and mash, fish and chips, and Shepherd's Pie, among others - in sealed containers so she could check for their authenticity and give her seal of approval. This was also done for sweets sold at Honeydukes sweet shop, weeks prior to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter's April 7th opening at Universal Studios Hollywood.
The information was revealed by Alan Gilmore, art director of the earlier Harry Potter films and Universal's Wizarding World attractions, and Universal representatives.
Quote:
Alan Gilmore: "The chefs at Universal flew to Scotland and brought the food to her. She got to see everything. It was a huge effort to get everything exactly right."
"All in all, I think she was very pleased with what our cooks created and the changes she asked for have been made."
"She is as aware as we are that although many of the dishes are British-themed, they also have to appeal to millions of visitors every year from all over the world."
"Ms Rowling has a finger in every pie, so to speak. She pays as much attention to detail in the Harry Potter parks as she did in all eight films and she is right to be scrupulous because fans expect everything to be just as it is in her books."
A spokesperson told SnitchSeeker during the opening week of Universal Studios Hollywood's Wizarding World of Harry Potter that J.K. Rowling had not had a chance to visit the Los Angeles attraction as of yet, due to her busy schedule. She in fact has not even visited Diagon Alley at Universal Orlando Resort.
