Professor Duskurk, Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, had a secret. This secret was revealed once he discovered the existance of a particular book whilst browsing the restricted section of the library. He is revealed as a Dark Lord and is dismissed from the school and leaves after a brief battle with the other professors.
The Hogwarts Express left promptly at 11 o'clock on September 1st. It was full of bustling new first years as well as several older pupils, eager about returning back to school. Everyone found themselves a compartment to sit in, and before long the Express was on its way. The children played Gobstones, traded chocolate frog cards and basically just enjoyed each others company. It was going to be a good year, they knew it.
The train chucked on forwards, till suddenly it started snowing. Snowing? In September? How could that be? Students pushed their way to the windows, all trying to catch a glimpse at the unnatural sight. But before they could even say a thing, the train gave a mighty lurch, causing luggage, owl cages as well as children to topple down to the floor. The carriages began to bounce up and down terribly. The train - it was going to crash!
Luckily though, the Hogwarts Express drove into a snow bank, making it finally stop. All was silent, except for the occasional hooting of distressed owls and mewing of terrified cats. Then came the abysmal jabber. What had happened? Why? These were the questions that escaped from nearly everyone's' tongues. It just couldn't be true - they were on the Hogwarts Express, and the Hogwarts Express didn't just drive off track for nothing. It had begun snowing even more heavily and people were starting to get a bit cold. Then someone got an idea - if they could just follow the train tracks, perhaps they could find shelter or perhaps contact the school somehow.
So they set off. A long line of black-clad shivering students, dragging their bags along behind them. It began to steadily grow darker, and the snow just didn't seem to settle. Suddenly there was a blinding flash above them which illuminated the whole dim scenery: a bright neon green skull with a snake protruding from its mouth. Everyone knew what that sign meant. There was no mistaking it: the Dark Mark. Shocked silence; horrid screaming. Everyone began to run, some trying to keep together with their friends, others just zooming off like headless chickens.
But then, amidst the yelling and shouting, came a new sound. It was like barking. A cloud shifted from in front of the full moon, making the new snow glitter in the faint light. Besides the moon, only a few stars were sprinkled across the dark velvety sky, but the glimmer was still enough to make it quite clear what was making the new noise. Wolves. Or, to be more precise, werewolves. They ran down a hill, five or six of them, and they made a beeline for the astounded children. Before they could react, the monsters were upon them, but they didn't stay. They merely ran through the crowds, scratching a couple but not attacking. In only a few minutes they had disappeared into the woods. Strange...
The situation was becoming even more troubled. The wanderers were hungry, having only eaten some chocolate frogs and pumpkin juice on the train, cold and frightened. Night had already fallen. The snowing had stopped, but only momentarily. Some decided to grab their broomsticks and head for help, hoping to reach a town or perhaps even Hogwarts.
After a couple of hours' trotting, the weary group saw a hut in the horizon. This new sight fed their spirits and they began making towards it, bustling with newfound excitement. Perhaps there would be someone who could help them there! Or, if not, at least they could get warm. The house began to grow, until they were right beside it. It appeared to be an old abandoned train station, with only one large rectangular wooden house with a tall lopsided roof. The station name sign was worn and smudged so it was impossible to read it.
Someone opened the lock with a simple Alohomora and everyone piled in. Soon magical fires had popped up everywhere. In one room, Christhiane, Moaning Myrtle and Keredwel were getting warm with a professor who had been on the train as well, GoldenLugia. But Lugia was not feeling well: he had hurt his leg somehow, and the pain was excruciating. The first years were doing all they could to help him, but he just wouldn't get better. They watched as his profile faded and he grew quieter and quieter. Finally, he died.
There was nothing more to do but wait. The fires gave off a little heat, but abruptly the room grew cold again and the fire was extinguished. The light dimmed, and a dark, menacing creature stepped into the doorway. He was clothed in black rags that waved and twisted unnaturally even though there was no wind inside. His face was hidden, and when he drew in a long rasping breath not only the room froze, but the students' insides as well. It was a dementor.
None of them could conjure a true Patronus, but their many feeble silvery mists combined were enough to drive off the creature. After that was settled, the students began to lie down in hopes of sleep after their action-packed day. They hoped no more troubles were going to bother them tonight, and with dreams of tomorrow they drifted asleep.
Dawn came bright and crisp. The snow began to melt at the touches of the very first rays, and when everyone had woken up most of it was gone, leaving only muddy puddles on the ground. Hungry and thirsty but awake, the Hogwarts students set off again. In daylight, they could already see the mountains surrounding the school far off. They began their journey again, and by noon had reached Hogwarts.
The Book of Mysteria contains powerful spells, some of which can make anyone immortal, extremely powerful, wreak havoc on the world, and other powerful, and also deadly spells. It is moved from one place to another every year, to prevent the Dark Arts from getting it. It was Hogwarts turn this year and the staff members decided to hide it in a well-protected secret room, behind a tapestry.
GoldenLugia, one of the teachers, was able to access the book. Voldemortist kidnapped GoldenLugia, and tried to make him tell Voldemortist everything he knew about the book. Voldemortist ended up killing GoldenLugia, and replaced GoldenLugia with a Polyjuice Potion GoldenLugia. He crashed the Hogwarts Express, so it looked like GoldenLugia s death was an accident.
The talk of the school is the mean Transfigurations teacher, Professor Henbou. She acts in strange ways, cursing people and even setting some students' heads on fire. Everyone suspects she is up to something. Dreadful news arrives: a teacher, ~Fleur~, has been kidnapped. And a student, Dragonheart, is killed when she discovers information which she should not have found. Slytherin students begin receiving threatening notes from an anonymous author, most likely the murder and Dragonheart comes back as a poltergeist.
The school receives hints that someone is using the Polyjuice Potion to disguise themselves as a regular teacher while really being a Death Eater. Henbou is suspected to be the one because of her weird doings. Henbou jumps out of a window and she lands in the hospital wing. She is replaced by a just as mean new teacher, Professor Sairento. Heads now turn in Sairento's way, suspecting him.
The end of year ball arrives. Everyone is off enjoying themselves, when suddenly Dumbledore's hair starts turning darker and his beard begins to disappear. He quickly digs out a phial of Polyjuice Potion, but Scot_girl notices it and Accio's it to her. The fake Dumbledore turns out to be the Death Eater in disguise. Dragonheart bursts into the hall, and as she notices the once-Dumbledore-now-Death Eater, she recognizes him as her killer.
VOLDEMORTIST MAKES AN APPEARANCE! DUNDUNDUNDUUUN! Suddenly ~Fleur~ bursts into the hall, pointing out Voldemortist to everyone. Heads turn in his direction, and Voldemortist kills ~Fleur~. He then turns his wand on Henbou to kill her, but Madame Shekespere jumps in the way. The curse grazes her arm, but does not kill her. In all the confusion, Professors Henbou and Sairento turn out to be her Auror-parents.
Meanwhile, the Death Eater is still trying to make a sly exit. The professors notice that though. They begin cursing him and demanding to know where the real Dumbledore is (he is in the Forbidden Forest). They drive him out to the balcony. The Death Eater jumps, shouting "VOLDEMORT LIVES" before his ascent to death.
In the Great Hall, Scot_girl attempts to stun Voldemortist. She doesn't succeed, and Voldemortist tries to kill her, but McGonagall throws her out of the way. All the remaining teachers then focus their wands on the Dark Lord, casting different spells on him. He falls to the ground, defeated and weak, but escapes before they can catch him. He exits and vows for revenge.
As you turn the page of the book, a folded piece of newspaper falls out. You unfold it and find that it's an old article from the Daily Prophet.
There has been made rumours surrounding the main train office of the Hogwarts Express. Major complaints arose from wizarding families, stating that the Hogwarts Express is unreliable, and unsafe for all students, young and old alike.
One thing is for sure, the Hogwarts Express will no longer be running. However, this will not last forever, so the train may be back up on it's feet within a few weeks or so.
Meanwhile, students that have not yet reached Hogwarts will be travelling with GoldenLugia personally.
A tragic event has occured on the second Hogwarts Express journey to Hogwarts. Apparently, there was a slight disability in the train system, enabling the train to run out of control. Students are still in the runaway train, the conductor (GoldenLugia) jumping out into the snow to gain aid.
What was supposed to be a great feast at Hogwarts School of Witchcracft and Wizardry today involving both the first and second party students has been cancelled, due to unnatural, yet strange events. Professor McGonagall, headmistress of Hogwarts was astounded. "Apparently, I had no idea what was wrong with the train. GoldenLugia has my full trust that everyone will reach here safely.", she said purse-lipped over a report with a Daily Prophet spokes-goblin.
Events so far:
4:00 PM: Students went onboard.
9:21 PM: Train lost control. GoldenLugia jumped out, and looked for help.
10:00 PM: GoldenLugia and students re-united in the chilling snow, in search for shelter.
10:20 PM: GoldenLugia and the students find a spare hut, where they got proper treatment, and had food from the Food Trolley Compartment to eat.
11:00 PM: Students of Hogwarts begin to aid GoldenLugia, who is slowly passing away.
11:20: GoldenLugia begins to turn into a transparent Hogwarts ghost. That will make him a ghostly teacher teaching at Hogwarts.
Due to ghastly events which we could not tell the hour of day, a Dementor appeared, thereby driven away by brave students. The students are sent to trod to Hogwarts, with GoldenLugia following behind.
That is all we (At the Daily Prophet offices) are knowing so far. We have sent a few reporters to investigate this strange event. We will provide more information in this thrilling event soon.
Professors Henbou and Sairento gone, Shekespere steps in as Transfigurations professor.
Lumos, another teacher, also had access to The Book of Mysteria. Voldemortist kidnapped him and tried to make Lumos get the book, but Lumos refused. So Voldemortist killed him and replaced Lumos with a Polyjuice Potion Lumos. To make the real Lumos death seem like an accident , they killed the Polyjuice Potion Lumos.
Unfortunately, the plot wasn't very well developed this term and never went to completion.
Almost two months ago we watched in horror as three beloved professors were carried off to the Hospital wing, frozen by a strange force coming from behind a mysterious tapestry. But, it seemed like the staff had the situation under control. The Headmistress placed a charm on the corridor where the tapestry was located to prevent any students from becoming injured and Professors Starcastic, Realton, and Lennon-Bond began to make a slow recovery. Life at Hogwarts returned to normal. That is, until one month later, when we went over to the library to study and found that it had been completely trashed. To make matters even worse, Professor Tari s and Professor Noire s offices were trashed the following week. And those trashings were followed by the most recent incident; Professor Elensar being trapped in her own classroom.
The general consensus from younger students is that the professors are doing a good job of trying to rectify the situation. Professors Hendrik and Tari have placed Dark Magic Detectors in all classrooms, offices, and other places throughout the castle. The Dark Magic Detectors will spin and whistle if any Dark Magic activity is present. The tapestry corridor remains charmed off and the professors are all on high alert, trying to protect the student body. The Headmistress was kind enough to inform The SS Quill of the professors progress in catching the guilty parties, Our progress is steady considering what little we know about the attacker. We do know what they want but unfortunately I cannot let the students know exactly what that is at this moment.
The teachers refuse to give any details about the reason for the heinous incidents so the students are left to speculation and rumor, increasing their fear. I would feel safer if I knew what we were up against and what exactly is happening. I think [the professors] know a lot more than they let on, and I wish I knew just so I could guard against it, says Cassie Cooper, a first year Ravenclaw.
The SS Quill can confirm that the tapestry is somehow linked to a very powerful and very dangerous magic book, which was placed at Hogwarts for safekeeping this year. There is a lot of mystery surrounding the book, but Professor Hendrik has remarked, I ve heard that contained in its pages are spells to make one immortal or extremely powerful, the ability to wreak general havoc on anything and everyone. The book is never kept in one place for very long. Whomever or whatever has been trashing the classrooms and offices is probably after this book and it is probable that the book has in fact been located in each of these spots at some point during this term.
Students are urged to realize that the professors are doing everything in their power to keep us safe and that by keeping us in the dark, they are trying to protect us. I would like the students to know that they need not worry about anything that has gone on in the past few weeks, it is my main goal as Headmistress of this school to put the students welfare first and I wouldn't tell them everything was okay if it wasn't, said Headmistress Loryen. However, this journalist finds it hard to believe that we have seen the last of the attackers and fervently hopes that the professors will catch them in the act the next time they make their move.
Ashley, a snow-white owl was injured on a flight back from the United States a couple weeks ago. Secret_garden32000, a first-year Ravenclaw, spoke of her owl s injuries, My owl's injuries were somewhat severe; she had, what I thought was, a broken wing (but it wasn't broken at all) and was favoring her right leg for walking on. And since the school's thestrals are trained not to go near the owls, it was pretty suspicious. She took the injured owl, affectionately known as Ash, to our very own Care of Magical Creatures teacher, Professor Hendrik for treatment and she is still recovering from the injuries.
The injuries this owl incurred were slightly suspicious, however, there have been cases of owls being injured delivering post so the incident didn t warrant a closer investigation. Then, last Wednesday, Professor Hendrik sent a letter with The Great Grey school owl. The owl was attacked just over The Forbidden Forest and the letter, bound for The Ministry of Magic, was taken.
Talk at The Staff Table suggests that the Headmistress has not yet received any aid from the Ministry of Magic regarding the mysterious events discussed in the previous issue of The SS Quill. The professors believe that the culprits behind the frozen professors and the trashing of classrooms and offices are also responsible for the attacks on our owls. They are going to attempt to contact the Ministry of Magic in some other manner. Hopefully they will be able to solve the mystery of whom or what is wreaking all this havoc on our beloved school before anything worse can happen
Lesson Three for the Care of Magical Creatures class last week started out well enough. Field trips can always be a little risky, especially at night. The carriages managed to arrive at their destination and the class proceeded without incident. In fact, the class was even able to spot some Mooncalves, the reason for the outing. However, Professor Hendrik had been acting strangely the entire time. He was very jumpy and was constantly on his guard- against whom or what, he would not say.
In his vigilance, Professor Hendrik mounted his broom and began circling the field where his students were collecting the Mooncalve dung. The dung was to be used to fertilize the Mandrakes, currently being grown by the Herbology students under the expert care of Professor Phoenix. Disaster struck the Care of Magical Creatures class when a loud CRACK was heard and a bolt of red light shot toward Professor Hendrik.
With his excellent Quidditch skills, Professor Hendrik was able to swerve and miss the full impact of the spell, but his left shoulder was grazed and injured during the attack. Without a thought for himself, Professor Hendrik ushered the class into the carriages, which rushed back to Hogwarts. The students arrived safely with enough of the Mooncalf dung to fertilize the Mandrakes and Professor Hendrik appears to have suffered no serious injury.
The students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry have been living in fear ever since the first attacks on three teachers at the beginning of the term. The mysterious tapestry and the events that have transpired since its finding still perplex the students and staff. We can only hope that the mysteries will be unveiled and taken in hand before the injuries are replaced by deaths.
After the tragic events at the end of the previous term, it was decided that Hogwart's term with the Book of Mysteria was now over. Plans were arranged to transfer it to Beauxbatons, where it would be held until a final secure place could be found. Due to the Headmistress' concern for her professors, they were not to leave the school grounds. A group of wizards from Beauxbatons were then arranged to pick up the book from Hogwarts and then take it back with them. Dressed as common Muggles, to draw as little attention as possible, they set out on their journey.
Somewhere along the line, a weakened Voldemortist discovered their plan and decided that this would be the perfect opportunity to get his hands on the book. He had a few of his followers kidnap the group and replace them.
All the while, Headmistress Loryen was starting to worry when the group did not arrive on schedule. She had someone send an owl to the Ministry to check on their progress. Before a response had a chance to arrive, the "Beauxbatons" wizards arrived, looking slightly disheveled. This raised the suspicions of the Hogwart's staff, but arrangements were still made for the group to stay in the professor's quarters.
In the following days, the group was often seen wandering the halls, and in places they were not supposed to be. One of the members found his way into Gill_boo's office and decided to find out any information that would be valuable in his mission. Upon searching, he stumbles across a photo album, revealing something that has been kept a secret until now: Gill_boo was a direct descendant of Harry Potter.
Knowing that this would be valuable, he sent a message to the other members with the information he found. After a few days of waiting, a reply was received, telling the group to formulate a plan to kill Gill_Boo. To make sure the information they had was true, they kidnapped a close friend of Gill's (MusicGirl87) and forced her to act as a double agent.
While the double agent was walking down the hall, she was heard by the ghost of a previous professor (Keredwel), muttering the plan to kill Gill_Boo under her breath. Knowing that something had to be done, the ghost relayed what she heard to the headmistress, who then called a meeting of all the other professors.
It was then decided that a fake book had to me made and made accessible to the group, in hopes this would stop their plan to kill Gill, and they would leave Hogwart's forever.
The apparent infiltration of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry by a group of Death Eaters resulted in the murder of up to seven Beauxbatons professors and the attempted murder of two Hogwarts professors.
The professors of Beauxbatons, who were visiting Hogwarts for an undisclosed reason, were killed enroute. Their visit is suspected by many to have been more than a mere pleasure cruise. The group of Death Eaters that killed them then proceeded on to Hogwarts, posing as the French staff.
"I don't know how this happened. We were so careful. Every precaution was taken," Olympe Maxime, headmistress of Beauxbatons was heard to say. She had not realized her staff was missing until the Hogwarts staff complained of the behavior of the imposters.
"They were always where they weren't supposed to be," Terry Weasley, Hufflepuff second year said. "It was very suspicious and very hard to be civil. More students than normal were punished for responding to the rudeness of the guests."
The actual motive for this intrusion has not yet been told and may never be known to the general public. Rumors abound throughout the school and many suggest the Death Eaters were in search of some item hidden at the school.
Added to the mystery is the motive behind the attempted murders of Professors Violet Trig and Professor Isabelle Adrie. While many have indicated that a Hogwarts professor was actually responsible for pulling a knife during the End-of-Term ball, Headmaster Hendrik insists the Death Eaters were in fact to blame.
The identities of the Death Eaters have no yet been released, but they are safely tucked away in Azkaban prison awaiting trial. The Minister assures the public that a swift trial will put the miscreants away for a long time. The search continues for the two Death Eaters who escaped (see page 23 for the story).
In the meantime, Professors Trig and Adrie are taking a short leave of absence while they heal and Maxime is in search of new professors while Beauxbatons mourns. We can only hope that the object hidden at Hogwarts will be removed before another tragedy occurs.
Hogwarts held it's own Tri-Wizard Tournament or HIT (Hogwarts Inter-house Tournament) without any other school participating. Talk among other schools interested in competing died out when they learned that Hogwarts was still hosting the Book of Mysteria. Which, by the way, was safely tucked away in a secret room within the Library. Each House chose four champions. Any student interested placed their name into the Goblet of Fire by submitting a Biography about themselves to their Head of House. The Head of House chose 12-15 bios to post (in the form of a poll) in their common rooms. The students voted on the ONE bio that they like the best. The four highest scoring bios were the four House Champions. The tasks were spread out over the course of the term. Task one was trivia. Task two was an obstacle course. And task three was a scavenger hunt.
During the term, Marcella, one of the school ghosts, discovered the secret room in the Library and found the Book of Mysteria. While flipping through it's pages, she found a spell that can reverse death and possibly bring her back to life. This information was brought to the attention of the Headmaster with a request to brew the potion. Headmaster Hendrik brought this finding to the rest of the staff and expressed his concern about what implications this might have and how dangerous the Book of Mysteria is. Marcella and Airla are keen to brew the potion and Hendrik's lady love, Phoenix, wishes to help them. In the end, the staff is divided but, Hendrik gives his permission to those who wish to brew the potion.
Voldemortist hears of this finding and plots to once again take the book and the potion that the staff begins to brew.
"Your second task is to complete an obstacle course. Each member of the team may choose to respond to every obstacle, but if a team fails to have any representation on a particular obstacle, they will forfeit the rest of the task and their points will be tallied as is. There will be FOUR obstacles, and each obstacle could earn your house a total of 10 points. In all, this task, like the last, is worth FORTY points."
Professor Airlia's Task:
You open your ominous looking door and arrive in a room, like any other in the castle. However, as you walk further into the room, the floor seems to become unstable and you just manage to get back on solid ground as a chunk of the floor disappears. That is when you turn to see the table placed against the wall adjacent to the door. Upon the table there is a cauldron with water, scales, mortar and pestle, all the instruments you d need for potion making and jars filled with the following ingredients:
* dandelions, whole
* cat s eye marble
* brains in clear liquid
* ginger, whole
* white rabbit, various parts in jars
* runespoor, various parts in jars
* sheep cheese
* knarfle, various parts in jars
* boomslang, various parts in jars
* anaconda, various parts in jars
* frogs, whole
* caterpillars, whole
* cat, head, preserved
* Dr. Pepper, canned
* knarfle, various parts in jars
* flobberworms, whole
* rosemary, dried
There is also a piece of parchment with the following words, written in green ink:
In order to get to the door on the opposite side of the room you shall need to brew a potion. This potion is to be spread across the floor and will indicate the safe path across. Should the section of floor you are standing on disappear, do not panic, we have set up a safety net below, for your protection. Don t worry if you fall, you will be scored for your attempt and you will still be able to move on to the next obstacle. (ooc: I will tell you whether or not you ve made it across, you may only go so far as spreading the potion on the floor)
As you exit the room with the precarious floor, you enter a much smaller room with a door on the opposite wall. The only object in this room is a large trunk that shudders occasionally. It obviously contains a boggart. The only thing keeping it closed is the large, ugly mountain troll sitting on the lid. He looks bored, but perks up and begins to swing his club at the sight of you entering the room. The door across from you is your only escape.
After leaving the remains of the Boggart and the Troll in the room, the Champions are now escorted to the Gryffindor Common Room with special permission, for the non-Gryffindor students, where they meet the Gryffindor House Ghost......
Theodore floats from his corner of the Gryffindor Common room quite dejected as he addresses the Champions. As each of you will have noticed, I have lost my favored companion. Spots holds up his now empty hand where, since the day he died due to a lightning strike, the ghostly Golden Snitch had remained clutched in his grasp. My Snitch, it appears has left me and is hiding amongst the school s, hallways, classrooms or grounds.
Theodore points to a piece of parchment tacked to the wall near the portrait of the Quidditch Cup he helped win. This riddle shall help you in locating where he has gone. Please attempt to solve it and bring him back to me, you shall have 24 hours from now to return him. Good Luck"
Now that you have completed the third obstacle, you are escorted to the front steps of the castle to begin you final obstacle of Task Four. Professor Lainey is there awaiting your arrival, worry clearly written on her face as she peered out over the lake.
Professor Lainey floated just in front of each of the Champions and peered down at them all, then addressing them concernedly she said, I believe each of you is familiar with our large creature that resides in our lake, The Giant Squid. It has fallen ill and needs immediate attention. The other Professor s and myself has reason to believe that it was fed some sort of large stone. Your obstacle is to remove the stone, or whatever it is the squid digested, without inflicting any harm on The Giant Squid. But be warned, although The Giant Squid has indeed always been friendly to the students of Hogwarts, it has fallen into a horrible mood and should be approached cautiously. Remember you have only 24 hours. You may begin. And Professor Lainey watched as they all stalked off in the direction of the Lake.
While half the staff was busy preparing a mysterious potion, The Draught of Ephemera, taken from the Book of Mysteria, the rest of the staff was left to deal with an attack upon the school by none other than Lord Voldemortist who was once again after said book. Professors Marcella Riddle, Angelica Lainey, and Kris Airlia were all brought back to their former bodies using said potion and Professor Phoebe Phoenix as medium. Whilst this was going on several students (She-who-must-not-be-psycho!, Raven4life, and Mrs. Weasley) were duped by Samea into brewing a potion which ended up encasing one student, Raven, in armor.
During the ritual required to brew the Draught of Ephemera, Voldemortist stormed the castle and while the former ghosts convalesced in the Hospital Wing, Prossor Rae was forced to battle Voldemortist in the Spirit Room. Professor Rae was mortally wounded in the attack and Voldemortist managed to get the Book. In a heroic display, Sir Spots attempted the ritual to become human in order to help Professor Rae. However, Rae was too weak to be a proper medium and he was forced to 'pass on' in the middle of the ritual. Thankfully, Professor Lainey arrived with the help of the Slytherin and Hufflepuff prefects (Backslash and Mrs. Weasley) and were able to bring Professor Rae to the Hospital Wing where she made a full recovery.
In the meantime, Professor Hendrik left Phoenix in the Hospital Wing to do battle with Voldemortist who was heading for the Forbidden Forest with the Book of Mysteria in an attempt to reach an apparition point. After a spectacular duel, Voldemortist made it to the apparition point. However, just as he disapparated, Professor Hendrik managed to summon the Book of Mysteria from Voldemortist's weakened grasp.
The End of Term Feast was a sombre occasion, honoring those students who were murdered by the Dark Lord.
Students killed by Voldemortist
(in chronological order)
Kagome (hpfan142), Ravenclaw {Killing Curse from Lord Voldemortist in the Shrieking Shack}
Ron (gryffindor_1), Gryffindor {Killing Curse over the center of the Lake}
Raphael (HermioneG2010), Slytherin; Nico (Nicholas Laryex), Slytherin; Alyssa (HarryPotterfreak82), Hufflepuff; Patricia (lunano1), Ravenclaw; Mike (voldemortsucks), Ravenclaw {all died of Killing Curse outside Professor Shrine's office}
Hogsmede was viciously attacked by Voldemortist over the holidays. He was extremely angry that Hendrik foiled his plans to obtain the Book of Mysteria and took his anger out on several shops in Hogsmeade. The Three Broomsticks, Honeydukes, the Post Office, Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop and Gladrags Wizardwear suffered major damage and will all need to be repaired. Hogwarts agreed to allow students, all students, to spend weekends in Hogsmeade serving a type of community service to the town. Buildings needed to be rebuilt, painted, re-furnished. Debris needed to be cleared and the owls at Post Office needed temporary housing until repairs are made. Headmaster Hendrik announced that Professor Bree would oversee these repairs.
Not long after the term started, Hogwarts was visited by a Ministry official (Ms. Leiden roughly translated from Dutch it means deceive ). She was there to investigate the events that took place last term as well as make sure there were enough safety measures in place after Voldemortist s last attack. She started off by questioning the Headmaster and several of the Professors who were once ghosts. The Headmaster and Staff agreed at first and offered very cautious answers. Everything was very benign at first, but her line of questions soon began to become intrusive and she quickly started to accuse the Headmaster and staff of using the Book of Mysteria for Dark purposes.
About this time a new character was introduced. Issues of the Daily Prophet start to appear in the Common Rooms as well as in the Great Hall at each House table. Within the paper is a recurring tabloid by Dempsey Doodle. The articles were very bogus and pointed to the Staff of Hogwarts corrupting the minds of the students, teaching them the Dark Arts, re-animating the dead, etc.
Ms. Leiden used these articles as fodder to investigate classes on an individual basis. She made appearances in each class, taking notes, causing disruptions and noting when and how often the Staff is teaching class. Her real intentions are made clear during one of her class investigations. During a Potion s class, she announced that Hogwarts is under investigation and that she feels some of the Staff at Hogwarts are no longer fit to teach the children and that several of the Staff will be replaced by more suited Professors. She then calls for three replacements. "Unspeakables to take the place of some of the professors. Professor Phoenix is replaced for her participation in the potion, Professor Rae is replaced for allowing Voldemortist to enter the castle, and Professors Riddle, Airlia, and Lainey (the former ghosts) are replaced as well. Ms Leiden then asks Professor McAiken to assist her in the trials. She reminds him that special clause 124 of the Hogwarts Charter allows the Ministry full control of the school when it is deemed under investigation.
The Staff refused to participate in any further investigations, Ms. Leiden removed Hendrik from his position as Headmaster, and took the position for herself (Interim Headmistress). She then announced that Professor McAiken would be her second in command, referring back to his history with the Ministry. Hendrik left without problems.
Ms Leiden then proclaimed that Staff will all be under investigation and a trial will follow to determine the true intentions of the Headmaster and Staff for last terms actions. The Unspeakables she brought into the school served as jury as well as Professor McAiken. McAiken follows Leiden s instructions though is troubled by everything she is doing and feels very obligated to Hendrik, though does nothing at the time. Some of the Staff start to have small meetings around the school in hidden areas to discuss ways in which to derail the Ministry's efforts. Everyone is very cautious around McAiken, thinking that he has fully bought into Leiden s accusations.
The trials started off by calling the previous ghosts to the stand. Some of the students were allowed to testify on behalf of the Professors, giving their accounts of what happened during the attack. During the trials, Ms Leiden told certain Houses her intentions either intentionally or by letting things slip . She wants full control of Hogwarts and wishes to never have Hendrik reinstated as Headmaster again. All the while more and more tabloid articles are being produced by Ms. Doodle.
After a few of the previous ghosts are put on trial, and nothing substantial is discovered, Ms Leiden decides to use alternate means (see special clause 124 of the Hogwarts Charter) to make the truth be known. She and the Unspeakables forcibly took the previous ghosts to rooms deep in the dungeon for interrogation. Quickly the captives discover that the trials are only a diversion to Leiden s true intentions, to have Hendrik banned from Hogwarts forever. Riddle, Lainey, and Airlia are imprisoned, indefinitely.
The term started with the announcement of replacement professors for Airlia (with Sophie Melita), Hendrik (with Riddoc), Lainey (with Berty Borr), Phoenix (with Cleo Virhosa), Rae (with Josef Perry), and Riddle (with Rhiane Shwmae). Leiden also gave a list of new and outrageous rules such as no walking in the corridors after 9pm and no eating sweets. Bree was replaced soon after the start of term with Kali O'Hara because of her efforts to thwart the Ministry take-over of Hogwarts. Bree and Rae set up a shop in Hogsmeade where they kept in touch with students, despite the restriction against students going to said shop.
Staff regularly visited the Hog s Head and were constantly watched by the bartender, Benjy Fenwick. One by one, each Staff member spoke with Fenwick and all too quickly they realized that Benjy Fenwick is really Headmaster Hendrik in disguise. Once Hendrik s identity is known to the Staff, they all began meeting at the Hog s Head on a regular basis, discussing what was going on within the castle and how to get Hendrik back and Leiden out. Gideon Prewitt III was not fooled by Hendrik s charade. He knew Benjy Fenwick from the original Order, having served with him personally. He knew Benjy died during a battle with Voldemortist long ago, but was perplexed to know how Hendrik was able to look just like him. The two spoke many times at the bar and Gideon was sure to keep Fenwick/Hendrik updated as to the goings on at the castle.
One day, Professor McAiken entered the bar alone. He was having a very hard time following orders from Leiden who had taken him down to the dungeons where the former ghosts were being held. Airlia had died due to advanced age and neglect. Leiden forced McAiken to transfigure Airlia's body into a piece of parchment (which she then took to her office and burned in the fire). Hendrik spoke to McAiken for a bit and in giving him change for his drink, he slipped him a coin that transfigures once inside his pocket. The note explained to McAiken his real identity and that it was time for Staff to launch a plan to get Hendrik back inside the castle. Hendrik (Fenwick) had heard talk of another attempt on the Book of Mysteria by Voldemortist. McAiken returned to the castle and continued to follow Leiden s orders and await instructions from Hendrik.
The Unspeakables who were teaching classes did so very hap-hazardly, only teaching very basic skills, if any at all, and very little practical work is expected. McAiken informs Hendrik (Fenwick) of everything going on, though Fenwick seems to be appearing less and less. When Fenwick is suddenly no longer at the Hog's head, the staff and McAiken begin meeting in Rae and Bree's pub, gathering a resistancce against Leiden.
Meanwhile, a mysterious figure is seen lurking around Hogsmeade. The mysterious figure makes her way into the castle through the Shrieking Shack and works hher way to the Headmaster s office. Once inside the office, she mistakes Leiden for the Headmaster and places the Crutacious Curse on her. When her identity is revealed words were exchanged, the figure wants to know where Hendrik is! Leiden tells her that Hendrik has been replaced. So the figure then demands that Leiden give her the Book of Mysteria. Leiden knows of the Book but has no clue where Hendrik has hidden it. She fumbles for excuses. The figure gets more and more agitated and places the Crutacious Curse on her several more times demanding the location of Hendrik and the Book. Leiden crumbles under the Curse. Meanwhile Rae and McAiken are listening outside the office door. In the end Leiden can not give the figure what she wants. Just as the mysterious figure is about the cast the Killing Curse, Rae and McAiken barge in! Rae subdues the figure while McAiken binds Leiden in ropes. Rae then reveals that the figure is none other than Jade Surreaux from several terms ago (one of the fake Beauxbatons visitors). She has come to seek revenge on Hendrik for killing JP DuTromper and retrieve the Book for Voldemortist.
Afterward, Leiden and the other Ministry officials are taken into custody while Rae unofficially assumes the role of Headmistress. Hendrik dissappeared without a trace.
As you turn the page of the book, a folded piece of newspaper falls out. You unfold it and find that it's an old article from the Daily Prophet.
"This is Dempsey Doodle, your daring roving reporter once again. Today, this reporter comes to you from St. Mungo's, at the bed-side of former Ministry official and Hogwart's Headmistress Nora Leiden.
While Ms. Leiden has proved to be helpful only in muttering about cheese and parsnip salad, we have been able to discover more information about what occurred at the school this past term through student and staff interviews and a bit of speculation.
Although once lauded as saviour and visionary to the school, Leiden is reduced now to little more than a bad cookbook. This reporter happens to know the cheese and parsnip salad she speaks of, and she is not impressed.
The Ministry's official statement is that Leiden was brutally attacked and cursed by a current Death Eater known as Jade Surreaux. Surreaux was reportedly in search of the legendary Book of Mysteria, last seen at Hogwarts and current location unknown.
Cassandra Rae, cast out of the school last term, was instrumental in leading a rescue mission to apprehend Surreaux and take back the school from the chaos Leiden had created. She is the Ministry's new favorite, and who can blame them? Youngest Headmistress in centuries, former Auror, and widowed hero, Rae is perfectly cast as Witch of the Moment. This reporter only wonders if the young Headmistress is maybe spending too much time trying to mend a broken heart, having been seen publically with Andrew McAiken, Gideon Prewett, Doyle Branxton, and Bertie Borr.
When asked by this reporter how she felt to be so lauded, Rae made her 'no comment' more than clear and punctuated with a spell. This reporter is actually quite fond of the new feathers - much easier to handle than hair anyway.
We at the Daily Prophet look forward eagerly to the occurences at Hogwart's. We feel confident that the Headmistress and her staff will do an excellent job this term in keeping the children safe, and we want to publically chastise Miss Leiden for her selfish and narrow-minded rules, her staffing choices including a suspected Death Eater and a house elf abuser, and her inability to control the students while she was in office.
