"I don't trust him." he said. He couldn't even bring himself to say the name. "He realized too late what he had." he said. "And... And... And.. " And he didn't want Marie to fall into that line of thought because Carter knew what he had and didn't want to give that up.
He loved spending time with Marie. Merlin, he might even love her. He didn't know. But he knew he wanted to find out.
"And I know exactly what I have... what we have."
Marie was relieved when Carter said it was Evan he didn't trust and not her. It meant a lot to her to have Carter believe in her and trust her. However she still sensed a little doubt in his voice.
Taking his hands in hers she actually felt like things were going to work out for them tonight. She just needed to make sure he fully understood that he was the one she wanted to be with and she had no intentions of hurting him like Marilyn did. Putting a hand on his cheek she said,
"I promise I will never hurt you like Marilyn did. We may be related but we are nothing alike." Sure they were cousins but that did NOT mean they acted the same.

"You are the only one I want to be with, you are the one that makes me happy. I chose you over Evan because I knew in my heart you were the one I didn't want to live without." Just the thought of losing him now was enough to put her in a major depressed mood. There was no way she would ever do anything to mess up what she had with him.
She leaned over and gave him a kiss. She could deal with not talking to Evan, but she could NOT deal with Carter not trusting her. Yes, Carter was the one she was falling in love with, not Evan.
