There was the urge to argue about adjusting, quelled only by the knowledge that she had lost someone. His eyes stared blankly at her hand as she stilled his, causing his fingers to curl in slight protest at not being able to do anything. What did she mean she had been staying away from him for certain reasons?

He wanted to ask, but her next words seemed more important and so he closed his mouth. Whether he actually wanted to hear what Lexi had gone through, he wasn't sure at this point; he wasn't sure if he wanted to hear about more pain, especially in his friends. But somewhere he recognized it as an offer to help, somewhere he found himself wanting to know how she had gotten through it, but there was one catch. A fact that caught his throat in unshed tears, tears of the desperate hope he was clinging on to. "She's not...dead...yet."
