He took a long drink at exactly the wrong time because that was when the randomly appearing girl decided to KISS JAKE.
Caught by surprise and unsure whether to inhale, laugh or hide somewhere and die, Tibi turned his head just fast enough to avoid spraying his tablemates with butterbeer as it flew out of his mouth.
Turning back, muttering a soft 'sorry,' he looked between the two of them, eyes wide, mouth open in a little surprised o.
Jake. got. kissed.

Even through his slight surprise, Jake heard Tibi spluttering his butterbeer, probably in shock, and the boy reached over to pat the boy on the back.
Better out than in, as they say.
Jake was, in fact, almost recovered when a sudden shout reached his ears, making him jump and slosh a little butterbeer onto the table.

Staring around in shock at the barkeeper, Jake was amused at the offence taken by the man. Jeez, someone was a little touchy.
Bwaha.
"Oh, shuh-shut up," the boy jeered, finally sobering up a little after the kiss.
It was only a kiss on the cheek, after all.

Being half veela meant a lot of things. 1) There was rarely a need for make up. 2) Boys somehow felt attracted to her (even the ones she wanted to smack). 3) She had a way of getting to people whether others liked it or not. So these things were running through her head at the moment.
"I---," began Thal with a frown. "---didn't mean to kiss you. It was---unintentional," she finally managed to say. "Not that I didn't like it," she quickly added. But then shut up about the topic.
"Sorry if I scarred you for life," came a sarcastic comment to Tibi. She smiled at both of the boys and then looked down at her hands.
What came next? No comment?
"It's not like I kissed him on the mouth!" she cried at the bartender guy. "And please do not recommend that nightmare of a place," Thalia added. "It's not like you've never kissed someone in public," she figured with a somewhat snobbish tone to it. Sitting back down, she gave the bartender an evil look. She would really like to hurt him if she could but definitely vetoed not to.
"It's fuhh-fine," Jake replied, smiling a little. "Nuhh-no problem wwwith me," he added, glancing over at the barkeep again. "Ignore huhh-him. He's a mmmiserale old buhh-barkeep."
With a firm nod, Jake started to drink his butterbeer again... but he couldn't quite take his eyes off the girl.
