Plus, people tended to think he was hiding things when they found out he was adopted. It was just good to give the information. Jake gave another small smile. Hopefully all was okay so far.
Deep in thought, Gabriella narrowed her eyes ever so slightly when Jake didn't reply to the the last question she'd asked. He didn't want to elaborate, and in a way, Gabriella could understand. Mysterious illnesses were often traumatic for people, and she imagined discussing the matter wasn't always the easiest thing to do. Making a mental note to keep an occasional watch on Jake, Gabriella dismissed the matter of last year's fits.
Upon hearing the news of the adoption, her facial expression changed into one a little more pleasant.
"Fresh starts are always nice, aren't they?" she replied. She'd recently made a fresh start, as well, and that included beginning her new job here at Hogwarts. Of course, her fresh start was more or less for a change of scenery and less for traumatic experiences.
"...and how are things going since your fresh start?"
