| | |  The Office of Healer Gabriella Ashford

Before posting in this thread, you must first post in the Waiting Area for Healer Ashford's Office.
In its time, this particular office has housed a number of different Healers, most, Gabriella Ashford would assume, bringing about their very own special flair for decorating, meeting, and greeting. Healer Ashford knows not what it looked like when it first came to be, nor does she ever recall visiting it during the years she attended school here at Hogwarts. She simply strolled into it a few months ago---just after being hired as the newest Healer---and...well, took over in her own special way.
Healer Ashford, you see, is a pureblooded city girl, born and raised in Manhattan, New York, United States of America. Although she attended school at Hogwarts, her life before then, as well as her life afterwards, revolved around the hustling and bustling known as New York City. Behind her desk is a portrait (non-moving) of the Starbucks on the corner of 63rd and Broadway, a shop she used to frequent quite often in her twenties.
To the left of it is a framed cast photo of the 2049 Broadway production of "Annie." Who's that little girl in the green dress on the front row? It's ten-year-old Ellie in the role of "Tessie." To the right of it is another framed cast photo, this one of the 2047 Broadway production of Les Miserables, in which eight-year-old Ellie shared the roles of Young Eponine and Young Cosette with two other little girls.
Lining the left wall of the room are shelves which house Ellie's Healer literature and guides, her diplomas from Hogwarts and from Healer School, and a variety of other odds and ends Ellie has collected throughout the years. There are photos of Hogwarts friends, Healer School friends, and the Ashford family of seven. On the opposite wall is a rather long framed portrait containing seven different Hogwarts ties, each one representing all seven members of the Ashford family. There are two Slytherin house ties, once belonging to Ellie's brothers (twins Austin and Zac); a Ravenclaw and a Hufflepuff house tie, once belonging to Ellie's sisters (twins Jennifer and Melissa); Ellie's own tie, a red and gold one; and finally, a Slytherin and Gryffindor tie, once belonging to Ellie's parents, Will and Emma Ashford.

No sense in asking him to do so when a quick wave of the wand could get the job done. She took a seat behind her desk then motioned towards one of the empty chairs. "Please take a seat, Mr. Upstead," she said. The one was hesitant, she could tell, and exactly why made her curious. "It's nice to meet you," she was quick to add. "I'm Miss Gabriella Ashford, and yes, I'm the new Healer. So how are you doing today, Mr. Upstead?" She'd offer him something to snack on or at least something to eat, but the problem was that she actually hadn't had time to acquire either. She made a mental note of that then glanced back up at the boy.

Okay, she was the new healer. That was good, and Jake felt a little more comfortable, though he did feel a tiny strike of fear. Healers... shudder.
Reaching into his pocket, Jake pulled out the parchment on which he had written... well, kind of written. With handwriting nobody else could read. "I'm oh-oh-okay," he smiled, and then politely returned the... what was it they called it? Small talk? "Hhuhhh-how are yyyou?"
Aaaaand then to the point. "I nnnneeded to talk to yuhhh-you. Just tuhh-tell you ab-about mmmmedical things," he shrugged. That was simple enough.
Ish.
Until he got into it all. Bwaha.

Hogwarts just wasn't like New York City, when Gabriella often times either worked alone or with small groups of people. Her new Healer job would require surrounding herself with children---lots and lots of children---during all parts of the day.
She listened as he replied to her with a stutter that was somewhat difficult to understand. Being a Healer, though, Gabriella was used to meeting with people who were either A, extremely nervous, or B, very ill or injured. Seeing that this child wasn't hurt at all, she assumed he was just really nervous.
Medical condition, though? She eyed the parchment he held in his hand then nodded understandingly. How independent of this child to bring her his medical records all on his own. "I see, Mr. Upstead. First of all, I appreciate that you've come to discuss this with me. I promise you that I'll do my best to take make extra sure you're taken care of," she replied. She wondered exactly what was on that parchment he held, but she figured he'd hand it to her when he was good and ready.

Putting the folder on the desk, Jake shoved the parchment he'd held back into his pocket. "I tuhh-take three ccccalming potions a d-day," he announced, wondering if he'd taken the ones he was supposed to today. "I tuhh-take care of th-them mysssself," Jake added. If there was one thing he liked, it was his independence. "They kkkeep me ruhh-real calm an' quiet." Usually...
Hmmm, what else was it? "I've buhh-been to St. Mungo's..." the boy paused for a moment, counting on his fingers to try and remember. "Ab-about three? Or fuh-four times... th-those were sssstays for a wwwweek or luhh-longer," he added, just to clarify. And then, to clarify further, he tapped the side of his head to indicate his mind, and then pointed at the file as if to say 's'allllll in there'.
"I al-also hhhave an all-allergy to sssugar," Jake went on, wondering why he was revealing this. Now the Healer would know he couldn't have sugar. Anyone else you want to tell, Upstead? "I go... hhhyper and th-then get ssssick."
He was really running out of the energy to tell all these now. "Llllast year I hhhad these wuhh-weird fit th-things. But th-they stopped... but I sssstutter. Profff-professor Bunbbbbury... Devil's Sn-snare..." Jake shuddered. He really wasn't fond of that memory.
OH YES! One last thing... if he remembered correctly. "An' Kapoor an' Buhh-bontecou de-decided last year th-that I should ttttake a dr-dreamless ssssleep p-potion," Jake's faint smile disappeared. "Nightmares."
Scary nightmares.
But, like it said in the file, Jake dealt with that too.
Maybe Jake would leave out the fact that he was a climber and therefore liable to get hurt. But it had never been a problem so far, right? Right. "Think th-thassit," Jake finished with a pleasant smile, holding his hands behind his back. Doooop doop dooooop.
Was that a puffapod.

Still reclined in her chair, Gabriella maintained a rather unreadable expression as she listened to the boy explain more about his calming potions. If she was being honest with herself, she was actually quite proud of this boy for being (or appearing) so responsible with maintaining and taking calming potion on a daily basis. She'd just have to keep a careful watch on Mr. Upstead to be sure he was doing just as he said he was. She didn't want to catch him out and about climbing the walls of the castle or something like that.
She unclasped her hands and sat back up, leaning slightly on the desk as she did so. "Well then, it seems like you've got everything under control, Mr. Upstead. It's refreshing to be around a child who's so responsible with their medications," she remarked. Gabriella had tended to patients (of all ages) who frequently...and conveniently...forgot their medications, and the result wasn't exactly on the pretty side.
Putting aside all thoughts of the calming potion (for now), Gabriella focused herself on the 'fits' of last school year. "Doesn't matter? As in, you haven't suffered from them since?" she asked, feeling the need for clarification. As Healer, Gabriella was naturally concerned for the well-being of everyone here at the castle, especially the students.

Wisely, Jake kept his mouth shut at the question he was asked. He looked as though he was considering his answer very carefully. "Rrrright," the boy replied, eager to pass that little issue. "I'm fuhhh-fine nnnnow," Jake added, just to clarify. He eyed the folder again, biting his lip. It would have been alot easier to leave it. "I was... Ad-adopted a ffffew weeks buhh-back... We wwwanted to mmmake sure... Ffffresh start. Ev-everyone on thhhhe same page."
Plus, people tended to think he was hiding things when they found out he was adopted. It was just good to give the information. Jake gave another small smile. Hopefully all was okay so far.

Upon hearing the news of the adoption, her facial expression changed into one a little more pleasant. "Fresh starts are always nice, aren't they?" she replied. She'd recently made a fresh start, as well, and that included beginning her new job here at Hogwarts. Of course, her fresh start was more or less for a change of scenery and less for traumatic experiences. "...and how are things going since your fresh start?"

Upon hearing the news of the adoption, her facial expression changed into one a little more pleasant. "Fresh starts are always nice, aren't they?" she replied. She'd recently made a fresh start, as well, and that included beginning her new job here at Hogwarts. Of course, her fresh start was more or less for a change of scenery and less for traumatic experiences. "...and how are things going since your fresh start?" When the Healer looked a little more happy or whatever it was she was, Jake smiled straight at her, feeling no need to hide anything now. Nodding his head at the woman, Jake swung his legs a little, shifting on the chair. "Guhh-good," he nodded, raising his eyebrows in a kind of 'hmm, well... yeah, I guess so' way. "Ddddo wh-what I'm ttttold now, ttttoo," Jake added, smirking just a tiny amount. "An' it's on'y a rrrrecent ch-change... but it's okay. I've buhh-been hhhappy enough."
And gosh darn it, he'd stay happy.

She'd try and find him a chocolate frog or some other type of candy, but he had mentioned how those types of things were off limits to him. Such a shame, such a shame.
Gabriella couldn't help but think that there just might be something troubling Jake, something other than the medical conditions that filled the file in her hands. Maybe she was just reading him incorrectly, as he had just said he was doing everything he was told to. "Well that sounds like a positive change to me. I'm glad you're happy," she remarked. "I'll tell you what, Mr. Upstead. If there's anything at all troubling you, and you find yourself needing someone to talk to, I'll be more than happy to sit and listen. I probably don't have all the answers, but I'll sure try my best."

"Well, I'll have to admit that calling you by your given name rather than your surname might feel a little odd at first, but I'll make an exception for you...Jake," she said.
She nodded understandingly when he mentioned needing to leave. There were things Gabriella needed to tend to, and Merlin, for all she knew there could be additional visitors waiting outside. She pushed her chair away from her desk and stood, making her way to the door to let Jake out. "Thank for stopping by, Mm---Jake. Have a good day," she added.

"Were nuhhh-nice tttto see yuhh-you," he commented finally. "You hhhave a guhh-good day tuhh-too," Jake added, and nodded his head once in a kind of head bow... and left.
That had gone... well.
Now Jake had to try not to be paranoid about someone else seeing the file.

cesar approached the office and decided to speak with the nurse himself. "Uh, Hi. My names Cesar. Im here to admit my friend into the hospital wing. However, she does not know her condition. Neither do I. She believes she is a lady of royalty from the 16th century sent to Hogwarts on a kings request. I don't know too much about magic seeing as im a first year but is it possible to have a potion or spel to make you act this way?" Cesar paused in order to gather the rest of his thoughts, then quickly continued. "Well yeah. She mentioned drinking pumpkin juice with a girl by the name of Lady Alexa. I heard her in the waiting room and she's talking in 16th century dialect as is Enid, my friend. Like I said before Im not too sure about magic yet but I suspect the pumpkin juice." | |

Smiling, she nodded her head and replied, "No problem! I told you at the feast earlier that I would drop by. And here I am." Livvy probably would've asked her right there and then, but it was the woman's first day! Plus, moments later, the new Headmaster had rushed them all back towards the table. No matter. Here she was now and they could talk.
But then the topic went to the Healer's rather interesting photographs hanging up on the wall. She nodded her head as the woman explained how she was raised in a Muggle family, even though she was of Pureblood heritage. Gabriella hoped that the students would enjoy talking with her and want to come see her regardless of whether or not they were injured. "You may have told me this, as well, but are you wanting to become a Healer someday? I can remember one or two students coming to me at the feast and telling me they were considering the occupation, but I can't remember who."
Gabriella turned to face the pictures the girl was asking about. She stood and pointed first to the one of her in a little green dress. "This little girl on the front row is me. I played Tessie in a Broadway production of 'Annie'. This little girl," she said, moving on to the second portrait, "is also me. I played the roles of Young Eponine and Young Cosette in Les Miserables." She grew quiet for a moment as she thought about the memories. Oh, to be a child just one more day... Life seemed so much easier then. She sighed softly then returned to her seat. OOC: For clarification, Gabriella's entire family is pureblooded. They just lived in the muggle world. Quote:

Mhm-hmm. Livvy just smiled and nodded her head. She didn't really know what to say to that. She wasn't sure if she should keep on the whole 'chit chat' or just get down straight to the point and the reason why she was here. Not... that... she didn't want to get to know this pretty... and new... and... talent maybe? ... Healer. But Livvy was nervous as it was. She hadn't had much time to help out at the Hospital Wing last term, even though she truly did... much thanks to Nurse Melita. UGH. That was horrible! That lady must've been insane! Of course... Livvy didn't mind the whole Healer Helper thing. She liked helping out and it was what had made her realize what sort of career she wanted to take on. But still... if Nurse Avalon had come later than she did... shudder. Livvy didn't even want to imagine what the school and Hospital Wing may have become.
Remembering that she wasn't alone but was with company, Livvy turned her head back over to the Healer. "Well in that case Healer Ashford... I might drop by for some visits, if you don't mind my company," she said, smiling and then listened to what the woman had to say next.
Ooohhh... So it was a production. Broadway too. Fanceh schmanceh. Impressive. Livvy now looked at the Healer at a whole new level. A good one of course. It was nice to know that professors had lives before, during, and after teaching. Sometimes she forgot, so a reminder was always nice. "Wow. That's really amazing. To be so young at the time and performing in a Broadway production. VERY impressive. At that age I was probably... mhm. Doing nothing probably." Griiiinnn.
And then a note flew in. Blink.
Livvy simply nodded her head as the Healer took the note and opened it. The Ravenclaw watched the woman as she read it, the look on her face filled with worry and concern. Well. That didn't look good at all. Maybe she should leave now?
Smiling, the girl nodded her head in understanding. "Of course, Healer Ashford. Duty calls. And I'll be sure to drop by soon to continue on with what had been started. Bye!" And with that, Livvy waved her hand with a cheerful smile on her face and headed on out of the office | |

Giving a small not-totally there smile at Tibi, as if saying thanks, William stood up and nodded a bit sheepishly before following the healer into her office and the unknown. From inside her office, Gabriella heard the younger Ravenclaw boy mention waiting until the other was finished. Figuring that he simply would rather discuss his matters with only her and not an office full of people, she nodded her head. "Thank you, dear. Just get comfortable on that bench, and I'll see you in just a moment," she called to him. With that said, she took a seat behind her desk and motioned for the older Ravenclaw to come in and have a seat. "First things first, I'm Healer Ashford," she said, even though she thought he just might already know her name even though they'd never met. Gabriella found that lots of children had already heard the names of the staff members through conversation with their peers. She still liked to introduce herself, though. It made the meeting a little more personal that way. "..and you are?"
