| "No, I don't feel like sleeping anymore, I've done enough of that for now." Elizabeth replied. The real truth of the matter was she didn't trust herself to sleep, who knew what would happen when she did, and she did not fancy any more disturbing dreams about Ophelia and Annabella and Hoxac...
She stood up gently and began to walk around the room, rubbing her arms against the cold. She looked down at Nicholas, who was already asleep, he was curled into a little ball, tucking his arms legs against the cold. She took an old musty blanket from from a crate nearby and placed it over him gently. It was thanks to him sshe had survived thus far, and she would be forever greatful for that. As she moved looked around. The attic was filled with boxes and old toys and clothes. A doll lay on the floor; it caught her attention. Curious, Elizabeth stooped and picked it up. It had the look of something that had once been precious. A pretty with dress with blue trim, dark mahogony coloured hair tied in two plaits, and blue eyes that looked out from their porcelain sockets. It's face was cracked and the dress dirty almost beyond recognition. It's lifeless eyes bored into Elizabeth's, captivating her, something about the doll tugged at her mind, though she had no idea why, she had never seen this doll before, she had never played with dolls as a child.
"This doll," she asked, keeping her eyes on it's face, "was it Ophelia's?"
The eyes continued pierce her, a shadow passed behind them, and a shock went through Elizabeth's arm. She dropped the doll.
"Orion, I have an idea about what may have happened, I mean, it just came into my head just now, I'm not sure if any of it will make sense, but...it's worth a try." She turned her back on the doll, who's deadened eyes followed her progress back to Orion.
"So Hoxac and Annabella get married, they are deeply in love, or so it seems anyway and they have children and everyone is happy. Until a few years later, Hoxac is no longer happy, he doesn't love Annabella anymore (if he ever truly did), he may even resent her for some reason, and he commences an affair with the Nanny. They used to meet in that room up there, hte Rose Room I think you call it. Now, Annabella was an intelligent woman, and they must have had plenty of servants in a house of this size, there's no way wouldn't have at least had suspicions about the trist; but Annabella loves Hoxac dearly, and she does not want to loose him, if she confronted him, she might loose everything, her house her children, her husband, she is a proud woman, so she turns a blind eye. Then however, the Nanny becomes pregnant, with what must be Hoxac's child. Annabella learns of this and becomes so enraged, she cannot bear the hurt and pain any longer, she is humiliated. So, maybe on a tip from one of the other servants, or maybe from previous knowledge, or maybe just a good guess, she follows them up to the Rose Room to catch them in the act and confront them. This she does, and once her fears are confirmed, she looses her mind with betrayel and jealousy, and throws the Nanny out the window, killing her, thus killing Hoxac's unborn child. This in turn, enrages Hoxac, who looses his mind. All the resentment and bitterness or whatever else he felt for Annabella that had grown over time, comes to a head an he explodes. To get back at her he kills her children, just like she killed his, and then kills her, and goes on a whole big killing spree. In the end, he felt so guilty he kept their spirits here, to punish himslf, never letting them go, or maybe, he kept them here to punish them, or, I don't know, it's very complicated."
Elizabeth sat down and rubbed her eyes.
"I don't know that there is any way of knowing for certain, not unless we found some kind of documentation, a record, or a journal of some kind, a diary..." ooc:sorry my posts are so long, I just thought since I can't be on that often, I may as well make up for it when I am on by posting as much as I can...sorry! |
