Background:

August has been in care for basically his entire life. As a toddler he was left outside a small orphanage tucked away in the rolling hills of the countryside. He has no memories of his parents or the life they had before and so was left to navigate his new world on his own. August found it difficult to bond with the other children in the orphanage as they were a few years older than he was and they were not fans of a toddler. So, despite the challenges he faced being bullied by them, he possessed an insatiable curiosity and a fierce independence that propelled him forward.

Growing up, he found solace in the natural world and could spend hours exploring the outdoors including the lush forests and winding rivers in the surrounding areas. He developed a deep curiosity for the animals and plants that thrive in the countryside. However, the staff at the orphanage did not encourage this behaviour and would only accompany him for 30 minutes a day.

When August showed signs of magic after just a few years living at the orphanage, he was moved between wizarding foster families until a suitable placement could be procured at Stemp House. August is a storyteller and tells intricate tales inspired by the wonders of the world around him about his childhood so it can never really be known if he is telling the truth.

- Was teased and bullied a lot in the orphanage he first lived at, and then in the foster families he was bounced between
- Some of the other kids would make fun of him for his obsession with the outdoors, and dubbed him 'Bug' for his interest in insects and other animals, so he donned the nickname like armour and began introducing himself as such
- Went to live at Stemp House at the age of six, where he had a much easier time settling in and coexisting with other residents, plus had the advantage of Lorelai Stemp and other staff taking an interest in his interests and cultivating his love of the natural world
- Began attending Hogwarts at the start of his first year
- Truly believed he would be sorted into Hufflepuff and was stunned when the Hat immediately put him in Ravenclaw with a judgement that was far too quickly reached for Bug's liking

- Keeps bits of the garden from Stemp House with him at all times, such as leaves or twigs
- Likes collecting bugs and small creatures but doesn't keep them; prefers to catch them, take a good long look at them, and then let them go free
