Cooper was not taking Defense Against the Dark Arts at the NEWT level, so his purpose for attending this particular seminar was more in the spirit of curiosity. Curiosity and a bit of a palate cleanser from all the NEWT studying and other obligations that game with being a seventh year. Sometimes it was nice to do something just to do it and not have a fundamental reason attached to it, something he had slowly grown to understand and appreciate over the last couple of terms. He was hoping for something active, something to get the heart pumping and subconscious stressors out.
Stepping into the classroom, the Ravenclaw smiled on reflex towards the instructor of the day ... though slowly retracted it upon seeing the man's somewhat rugged and stern, perhaps even a bit aloof, presence. Emotions that may have been more projections than reality, because his eyes were mostly fixated on the silvery meerkat scampering about. Impossible to ignore the way his stomach knotted, Cooper moved to find himself a seat. "Good day, sir," he greeted, tearing his eyes away from the patronus and slipping into his seat properly. Quill out, he wrote his name on the tag provided and leaned back in his seat a little.
He then found himself hoping that the silvery meerkat was just for show and not that today's seminar would be a focus on the Patrnous Charm. Cooper had long given up on his potential to produce such powerful magic, and he easily recalled a conversation with Darren about this. Plenty of people would say that you could do anything if you put your mind to it...that the only limits are those that you impose upon yourself... but that was not entirely practical or realistic or fair. He had no jealousy, only admiration, in that as a seventh year he could still only just barely manage a wisp at best while others a full corporeal patronus. Each person had their own gifts and talents, that was what made life special.
But, he was also getting entirely too ahead of himself here and it was best to not be too presumptuous. Instead he occupied himself in watching the meerkat with a soft smile on his face. It was quite cute.
