Being put on clean-up duty was not nearly as interesting as researching a way to reverse powerful dark magic. However, ridding the ministry of hateful reminders of the toxic Neo-Alliance ideology was important work. She was truly heartbroken for all those who had lost loved ones because of the Neo-Alliance and for what had happened to all those poor children at Hogwarts. It had not gone unnoticed that she had been treated differently here for being a half-blood under her former boss who had turned out to be in the Neo-Alliance. Their ideology surrounding blood purity disgusted her. She knew not just from moral feelings and observations of those around her but from her own research into the very nature of magic that blood “purity” had nothing to do with the strength of magical powers. How and when magical abilities surfaced in an individual was a much more interesting question and something that she had assisted in researching during her time at the Wizarding University of London.

Penelope looked up at the tapestries as she arrived at the designated meeting area in the atrium. ”Good morning, Raini. I gather this task will require much more than a simple avexis charm.” Clearly they wouldn’t have brought her department into this if all that was needed was a basic unsticking charm that any school child could perform. One did not bring the top spell researchers and experimental charms developers of the accidents and catastrophes department in for tasks that could be easily accomplished by the janitorial staff. The Neo-Alliance’s deep infiltration of the wizarding government at the highest level had certainly been no accident, but it was quite the catastrophe. And she, Penelope Wright, after years and years of work following her insatiable curiosity to discover the secrets of the inner workings of magic was now an expert in experimental magic research and advanced magical theory. She had mastered the most complex form of self-transfiguration and had created her own spells. Penelope was proud to have reached a point in her career where she was recognized in the area of spell research and was able to use her knowledge to the benefit of the wizarding world, yet she sometimes felt that she knew absolutely nothing at all. Many of her colleagues were outstanding in their own fields and there was much she could admire about them and learn from them.
