Odaline really just didn't like to make conversation with people, it was nothing more than that. And she rarely smiled, so it wasn't something against the Professor when she didn't give him a big one like others had done. If adults were bothered by her lack of greeting, then they had very little going on in their lives. Clearly.
But her priority was learning and showing what she already knew. (Which, in terms of magic, wasn't a lot) So hand raised, she offered the simplest of answers. "You see them in the sky." Not too long, not too short. Couldn't say she wasn't contributing.
