Maddox made his way through the fairly empty work area. It was still an hour or so until most people started arriving but he'd be out in the field by then. Before he left, he had a file to drop off.

He didn't want to be bothered with figuring out who to hand it to and here Ava sat. It was like the universe was on his side. "Ava. You're in early. Got something for you." He said, raising the file and speaking so naturally that she'd never know it was spur of the moment.

Ava was organizing her already organized desk and getting started on work for the day when she saw her superior heading towards her. "Good morning, Sir," she greeted him with a pleasant smile. She didn't mind the extra work to be honest, not to mention her ambition to move up within the department. "Any updates on the liaison position by chance?" she added.
