"I...um...thanks," he grinned a bit sheepishly, ruffling his hair a bit and fluffing it up as a result. "I feel better. I reckon. Got another tattoo to cover up another scar...so that helped a bit also." He had gone with Chloe this time for that and this one was on his left wrist, the fang of a creature, just above the ulna bone and was in perfect view to Natalie where she sat. "Little anxious about going back to Hogwarts given, well, everything but...you know...kinda ready to see it through to the end." Licking a bit more off his ice cream cone, and noticing the pinkish hue to her cheeks, Derf bowed his head to suck some that had fallen on to his wrist and then ventured a glance back in her direction. "You seem loads happier than the last time I saw you. Reckon summer has been treating you well then?"

It felt like she was smiling more than she had in quite a while. Nat usually had a smile or two to spare here and there, but... this felt good. Summer felt good. And Picketta had waved at her, so she was REALLY happy about that. She gave the little creature a grin as she went back inside of Derf's pocket, presumably to nap again. What a dream. Nat wished she could nap inside Derf's pocket too.

She watched Derf's signature hair ruffle and licked more ice cream from her cone. When he mentioned another tattoo, and on his wrist, her eyes went right to it as he kept on talking. She reached out and brushed her thumb across his wrist gently as another small smile flashed across her lips. Then she returned her hand to her cone. She knew how much these tattoos meant to him and she was glad that he was doing what made him feel good.

"I'm nervous too," she commented. She was nervous for NEWTs and what universities she would get into. She was nervous about being a prefect... which Derf still didn't know about. But he would soon. At his last comment, Natalie smiled faintly and nibbled a bit of cone. "I feel happier. Home always helps. As does the sun." Hogwarts was wonderful (sometimes), but she missed her home and her parents awfully when she was away. And last term had just been quite draining.

Natalie took another bite of her dwindling cone and slid her hand back to hover over her left pocket. "And, erm... I got something in the mail this summer that helped..." Reaching into her pocket, Natalie grasped the cool metal that resided within and pulled out the shiny green badge that the school had sent after the previous term had ended. A proud smile shone on her face as she held the badge face up for Derf to see.

SEE? DID HE SEE? WAS HE PROUD?
