Offering her a bit of a lingering grin in appreciate, he looked at the ice cream cone and struggled to recall the last time that he had properly sat down and had one. It was almost embarrassing how long it took for him to remember Jessa and their annual ice cream dates in the summer. Those truly seemed like a lifetime ago since they hadn't been able to have one last summer and, well, he wasn't too sure about what was going to happen this summer with her graduating and moving on and everything.

He himself being pretty busy with other things too.

"Thanks," he repeated again, somewhat distractedly but still appreciatively, before using his tongue to swirl all the way around the base of it to catch any drippings that threatened to fall on to his hand. And an almost peaceful kind of smile graced his sun-kissed features.

Hearing her words, his gaze naturally dropped to his pocket and the bowtruckle who had now peeked her head out to greet the Slytherin properly. "Nah, that's okay," he mused, not even thinking about things as he leaned forward to lick that little bit of strawberry ice cream off Natalie's finger. "Picketta doesn't like cold things anyway." Though he was sure she appreciated the gesture. Or, well, he was going to pretend that she did.
Natalie and Derf hadn't really done ice cream together very often, but it sounded like a good idea. She had been looking forward to spending time with him outside of the castle and in a (hopefully) less stressful environment. Just good, basic, casual time together. That was what friends did. Licking some excess strawberry ice cream off her upper lip, she smiled. "Anytime." Ice cream or just company, she was always available for him.

Her eyes were on him and he seemed a little distracted, she noticed. Which is why, when he thanked her again, she just smiled and returned her attention back to Picketta. She was still trying to get on her good side.

Apparently she didn't like cold things, but... well, Derf apparently did. Her eyebrows raised slightly when Derf cleaned the strawberry ice cream off her finger instead of the Bowtruckle. Then she pressed her lips together, stifling a laugh as her cheeks turned a light shade of pink. How very Derf of him, to lick her finger without second thought and without any inkling of an idea that it was not what people who weren't dating did. But that was Derf. He didn't care. And Natalie liked that.

She also liked how he looked in the sun. He looked more lively. His blonde hair was radiant and shiny. He looked happier. "You look good," she remarked after a moment, returning her hand to her lap. She had been staring at him for a good while now, so she diverted her eyes and returned her attention to her ice cream cone.
