Oooh, so she had been close in her reasoning, just working in the wrong order. Esme wondered if the animals were invisible since she couldn't see them anymore. Or not because now there were tarantulas and one of them was crawling up the Professor's arm. Yeaaaaaah.
Shuddering slightly, she watched the arachnid. They didn't SCARE her - well, not the non-Acromantula ones - but that didn't mean that they couldn't unsettle them. Bugs and arachnids just weren't her thing and if they were supposed to hold them it wasn't going to happen. The thing could crawl around her desk as much as it wanted to but she was not going to touch it until it had been transfigured into an object.
Raising her hand, Esme said, "Transfiguration is a really hard subject and I think that this method helps to make it more simple. It's not as much of a stretch to turn the porcupine into a pin cushion as it is to turn it into something really soft like cotton. The physical properties are already there. I wouldn't say that it's impossible to turn a tarantula into a non-prickly object... just more complicated because you have to focus on changing all the properties and not just playing with them."
