Maybe it was bad prefecting to tell someone that a task was hopeless. Merlin knew that people needed a goal, even one where the outcome was unlikely. What if this little sprog could actually figure out a way to clean up the swamp, and Dot had just discouraged her from even trying? Worst prefect ever.

She did let herself be talked into moving down to the turn in the corridor, where it wasn't stinky at all. "Maybe hopeless is the wrong word. It's difficult and not something I'm going to spend my time on, but if you want to work at it, maybe there's a solution everyone else is missing. Dunno." She shoved her hands into her pockets and shrugged her shoulders up and down. "What's your name?"
