Ethan closed the door behind him, and briefly glanced around his office. There were so many things that he wanted to see, but Culloden’s current mood definitely sucked all of Ethan’s attention.
It looks like the man needed someone to talk to?
The fourth year stood in the middle of his office as he watched the man stand up to move to his visitor’s chair. Ethan grinned at his professor as he offered him a seat, and waited for the man to settle in before sitting down himself. “I would like to discuss some concerns with you, professor, but…I’m rather concerned about…you.” He said as he eyed the man in front of him. “Is…everything all right sir? I didn’t see you at the feast last night.” Ethan momentarily forgot about the weight of his badge, as he waited for the man to speak. He can’t possibly discuss his own worries, when his adviser’s got issues himself. "...I hope you don't mind me asking."
Something was definitely up, seeing that Culloden did not return his grin earlier. If Cosgrach could feel something positive now, it would have been gratitude and praise for the boy. The way he asked whether the older man needed an ear and how concerned he looked moved Cosgrach, but he simply forced himself to smile and shook his head. "Everything isn't alright, but they will be," he politely said. Clearly he didn't believe that, but he didn't want Ethan to worry about him, so the boy should take the hint. "I had some matters to attend to. I came late in the night." That was all he was going to say. "Thank you for your concern, though." Now his smile looked genuine. "Let's hear about your concerns and see how I can help."
He put on a brave face for him, because he deserved it. He was all ears. Text Cut: Kevin Quote:

He casually leaned back in his chair and looked around the office and he had to admit, it looked pretty cool. Atleast there was no pink... He turned his gaze back when he talked.
Ah, disrespectful behaviour. As if he could do a better job than the Headmistress herself. And look at him, he was still the same. "We both know a detention doesn't scare me nor will it *change* me" unless they came up with a really good plan which he doubted haha! "Besides, that was hardly disrespectful, i just said we needed to talk" seriously, grown ups were weird. Even Flailsteed who had been cool about his behaviour before was acting weird towards him. He suspected that the staff knew about his "behaviour" or whatever that meant. "Alright then i'll just cut right to the chase. I don't want to be here but i have to...for MY own good" which was true. "First of all i ap.......apolog......" uuugh he couldn't even SAY that word. He took a deep breath through his nose. "Apologize" ewwww... "for what i did these past few years" He didn't mean those words, not one bit. But if that meant that he could go play outside again at home he would do it. And he had to try get on his good side for the next question. "Also, how does one become a potioneer?" are there tests? uni's? pure luck? what? ...
......you know what? Cosgrach was DONE trying to rationalise with this insufferable git. He had tried being nice, he had tried threatening, he had even spoken to his head of house - who accused him of being too sensitive because she hadn't seen such behaviour from the boy. The boy was clever, Cosgrach had to admit. He had beaten Cosgrach so far, but Cosgrach was better and he would win this war.
So he listened to what he had to say. He was... touched with the apology, but he wasn't impressed. He didn't believe him. He was just doing it because -
Ah.
Cosgrach would have smirked his meaniest, but he was too angry to do that. Instead, he only said "So is this your game, now? You came to apologise, because you want to become a potioneer and need me?" He laughed evilly. "I'm not buying it. The apology. I can teach you all I know," which was a lot, if only Kevin glanced at the library and see the voluminous books he had written, "but you know what? I'm tired of you and I just don't feel like wasting one second of my time for you outside the classroom." Because he had to teach him during class, but outside it? He didn't think so. He shrugged casually and almost dismissively. Sure a detention wouldn't serve anyone any good, but denying the boy his dreams?

............But Jasmine's better than you?
Even though she knew he was "joking," that struck a sore spot - in fact, everything he said from then on did and got worse, and Soph tried not to let it show - she tore her gaze away from his and instead appeared far too transfixed on one spot on the ground, letting him finish out his whole ramble before she even considered speaking again.
She could take his teasing. But when there was some truth behind what he was saying, and she KNEW he wasn't just talking nonsense - Jasmine had earned more points than her last term, but that didn't say anything about leadership qualities or heart, and it was true that Tobes didn't have the best of the best grades, but that wasn't HIS fault! Toby was TOTALLY social! And conversed like a champ! And he WAS perfect to her!
Sophie wanted to yell at him. Scold him for being out of line. Make him feel like a bully. But she was still aware of the state he had been in when he first approached the office - the most angry she'd ever seen him - and she wasn't sure that any criticism of him would even make a difference right now. It'd probably just add to his bad mood. Maybe he didn't mean to be a jerk. Maybe it was just his bad mood clouding his judgment.
Still, she wasn't going to entirely let him insult her and Tobes.
She could've taken insults directed solely at herself. But going after Tobes was where he crossed the line.
"Because you're in a foul mood," she began, speaking matter-of-factly as she closed her bag of sweets and slung it over her shoulder, "I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt that you didn't think through how that would come across and let ya live." Careful choice of words there so he'd both realize he was being a jerk and how it affected her, but also sort of making it not come across as harshly by teasing about letting him live. "B'you're gonna have to walk by yourself." Yep, she was headed for the door and leaving without him. ...let him live?
......walk by himself?
Cosgrach wasn't expecting this. None of it. It has never occurred to him that she would be so heartbroken and leave him there. He didn't even have anything to say, so he didn't. He let her leave, cursed loudly and left for Annie's office. |
