Oh, and they were shaking hands? She would have totally gone ahead to shake hands with them all but she already was seated. Then clicking of heels caught his attention long before the woman entered the room. Yet another employee he would have to know the name of. At first he thought it was good he'd brought his files, what with the way she just immediately took her seat but then she gave a brief introduction. Did he mind terribly that she took a seat without coming to greet him first? Not at all. One less handshake to smile through. Were it him he'd have done the same, in fact it was what he was used to doing. "Good day Ms. Smith. Glad you could join us." While the others had been early, she'd merely been on time. Nothing he would complain about.
And she was the secretary, he would probably be working with her quite often, no? "Please, help yourself to come of the snacks, we'll be beginning in a moment." And someone had taken the time to make these. No need to make them go to waste. Quote:

Well, she personally didn’t like that, but she would do what was asked of her. ”I’m new to the ministry actually.” She tried not to ramble… she was good at that sometimes. And there it was, that subtle look the woman wore. As he'd proven before, he was excellent at reading others. It came from years of sitting on the sidelines and merely observing everything as opposed to jumping in and getting himself involved. Still, he appreciated her effort at passing off her disapproval. Not willing to speak against authority, she was a keeper. He grimaced somewhat at the 'dear'. That would have to be a no. "The Ministry itself? Well then, welcome. You did the right thing coming to this level, no greater service than to the Minister who directly impacts the wider wizarding world." Oh so he'd been told. For now, he would go with it. "I look forward to working with you." Quote:

Maybe these Brits got his application wrong? Merlin. Rising the steps in here shouldn't take him long. "Pleasure to meet you, Gavin," he said kindly to him, his features hardly betraying his BAD first impression. The lady? He had yet to decide, but she didn't cringe at hand-shaking, at least.
And no, 'just João' wouldn't work for him. Not for the time being, at least. So he didn't say anything, and instead shook the lady's hand.
After the handshakes were done, João sat somewhere in the middle too and turned to Gavin. "I am new too." Surely they must have noticed his different and somewhat curt accent? And what do we have here? Another stick in the mud. He supposed it was to be expected. This was the Minister's Office. Everything here would be a bit more formal? There was no point in changing it, too hard with the mindset of people. Something he'd have to bring up once the meeting started.
Given his current position, he couldn't yawn his displeasure, no, he sat upright and nodded at Mr. Neves. Also new.
He glanced down at his watch. It was about time to start. "I think we'll begin the meeting now. The Minister will arrive when he does and will be briefed on anything he might miss afterwards." That was the best he could do. There was a thing about punctuality. Once people made the effort, it was only rude to make them wait. "Right off the bat, I can tell you're all at least willing to follow instructions." He glanced first at Ainsley then at Mr. Neves, an amused smile on his face. "Neither of you are taken in by first names, but neither of you spoke up. Whether that's a good thing or not, I don't know yet, but it's promising. I'll accept Mr. Isaacs." That was going to take some getting used to. "But we aren't here to discuss the naming arrangements on this level. As you've all heard, or walked in here today and suddenly realized, I'm the new Senior Undersecretary." They all knew this, yes? "Now I understand the major project at the moment is..." He flipped through the folder for a moment, "Redecorating for the Minister. How's that coming along?" From what he'd come to understand, even the new employees had been briefed, yes? Input? "And the dress code? How's that?"
