Default Jessicakes: The Potter Cakes (and Papercrafts).

So, I bake. It was one of the largest factors when fell off the grid with SnitchSeeker. If you follow me on Facebook or Tumblr, you'll already know this.

Buuut, seeing as though I'm coming back, I decided that I'd create a thread here, to share the Potter/Hogwarts/Wizardy cakes I have made (and will make)... Because, y'know, another space online to keep updated with my work is just what I need. It's a huge shame that I don't get to make more HP themed cakes, in all honesty.

Anyway. Onto the cake. The last HP themed cake I made was way back in February, and it was awesome.

My mum's neighbour literally said to me "Jess, I really want a Harry Potter themed cake for my birthday", and she gave me total creative freedom over it. This is what I came up with. My mum's neighbour absolutely adored it, and as did everyone else at the party. (Seriously, I think it's my most-photographed cake to date!)

I'd debated trying to make the mascots, too, but I don't have a delicate enough hand to be able to cut them out cleanly. Maybe practising that will be my next project.

Because I don't want this post to be too image-heavy, more photos of different angles of the cake are under the cut:

SPOILER!!: More photos!

I honestly don't remember how I came to the decision, but 'anti-gravity'/flying kind of became the theme of the scene on the cake. It worked well, though, so I'm not complaining. Originally the broom was going to be stood against the cake, but when I DID realise that the different ideas seamlessly worked together, the figure of my friend looked odd just perched on... nothing.

The inside of the cake was pretty neat, too. I didn't manage to get a photo of it, though. It was a chessboard cake, and was chocolate fudge and white chocolate in flavour. (For visual reference, though, this is what a chess/checker board cake looks like.)

I can't tell you how long this took to make from beginning to end. I don't remember. It was definitely upwards of 30 hours, though.

So... yes. Cake. That's a thing. I'd love to know what you guys think of this cake overall.

I only have a couple more HP themed cakes/fondant works that I've already made - which I'll share soon -, so any ideas as to what I could make in the future would be gladly noted. :3
