If that girl hadn't lifted his foot (HE SWEARS IT HAPPENED, even if it might not have...) then he wouldn't have fallen in.
"Sir, I've already told you. I was clearly proving that my boat was the BEST. A feat you yourself were unable to achieve. However, your boat did take a respectable next-to-best. It was the biggest, after all." He spoke matter-of-factly to emphasize just how serious he was. "And honestly, it wasn't even my fault. I swear that girl lifted my foot. But whatever. She was waving to the water, so she was crazy anyway. And besides, even if she WAS trying to make friends with the lake inhabitants, I did a better job of that."
The title of BEST!BOAT Captain had gone to his head already.
Seb had to refrain from rolling his eyes. The kid was still going on about his boat being the best. And Merlin, could thr lad talk! And he thought that he had the gift of the gab. This young Ravenclaw had him beat for sure, but he was not about to tell him that.
"Okay, okay I exceed defeat, your boat was the best." Even though he'd had to take an unwanted swim in the lake, Seb just couldn't be mad at the kid.
"You most certainly did do a better job and if I hadn't gotten you out when I did, there was a rather scary looking mermaid just wanting to make you her pet."
Not really. But the kid didn't need to know that.
