Too nervous and excited, Kennedy sat on the ground and left the entire cushion to Hilbert. He kept fidgeting with his hands as he saw that some of other's eggs were already hatching. Was his not going to hatch? He extended his arm and slightly poked it.
Maybe Hilbert was sleeping?
Right then the egg tipped over, and that made Kennedy think that it was a dud. So, he's been carrying an empty egg after all this time? No. That couldn't be possible. It moved and reacted to the weather and to Puff. He was about to stand up when he could have sworn that Hilbert shook. Kennedy sat back down and just stared at it... And, it did it again!
The egg began to shake and wobble, rolling slightly on the cushion. Then a crack on the side appeared, the another one, and suddenly the egg was covered in cracks. If Kennedy would have blinked he would have missed the birth of Hilbert Escalante --yes he gave him his last name. The small pup bounced out of its shell and looked up at the world, wagging it's tiny tail.
He was the most adorable thing Kennedy has ever seen. The boy extended his arm once more and petted the metal pup.
He was SO cute! Kennedy also liked Hilbert's ability to alert him of trouble. Hehehe.
Kennedy picked up the egg shells, picked his bag up, and Hilbert in his other hand. This was the best project ever. Before exiting the class he turned to the professor.
"Thanks for a great project," he said, lifting the pup so she could see it.
"Have a great summer." And with that he left with a big smile on his face.
