Really, she hadn't taken anything he said as him trying to make her feel better. Treyen had just been saying things that he didn't understand. Because he didn't know what it was like to take OWLs without being the least bit prepared for them. Treyen was smart, he studied. And he didn't know what it was like to be Captain on top of those exams.
But now she saw. He was just trying to make her feel better, wasn't he? And she just didn't let him. She turned fully to him now. "Sorry." For not letting him make her feel better. She was a jerk, wasn't she? "And thank you." For trying.
Ellie grabbed her bag and put the Quidditch book inside, carefully moving things around as she did so, so that nothing would break.
Wait. She asked the worst possible questions?! She'd only asked one simple question. One yes-or-no question. It was Treyen and his follow up questions that were bad.
But she wasn't going to go on him about that. Mostly because she was looking at him now, and he was smiling. And Ellie didn't want to make it go away.
"James' monkey? Rufus?" From Lexi? Quidditch Quitter Lexi? Ellie wasn't even aware that girl had him. She just presumed James took little Rufus with him to Merlin knows where he ended up after Hogwarts. "That's..." Awesome! It was awesome! She was grinning now. "You have to let me meet him. James was supposed to introduce me forever ago, but he never did." And she was so monkey deprived.
Sure, it was slightly weird to think of Treyen with a monkey, but it was so COOL at the same time.
So cool, that Ellie could easily move on from their way-too-long exam/Quidditch talk. That she started, apparently.
Then...that was it.
No more mentioning anything about whatever it was they were discussing, because
clearly he couldn't say a single word that will make her feel any better.
Then she seemed to have realized something, or at least understood what he'd said when she...apologized, yet again. She didn't have to. But, there was only one answer for BOTH the 'Sorry' and the 'Thank you', which is why he leaned towards her to kiss her cheek. That was a good enough answer. One she couldn't possibly object, right?
"Yes! I keep forgetting his name," he said, slightly ashamed for that last part. Honestly, he'd even asked Lexi who Rufus was. But...Ellie seemed surprisingly happy about the fact that he'll be the temporary owner of Rufus. Odd. Truly odd. He still smiled,
"Sure, I'll have him for as long as I'm in Hogwarts...I think there'll be time for you to see him." See. Not take care. Because Ellie wasn't the greatest when it came to pets.
Only Cliodna was the one who appeared to be alright. And owls could take care of themselves. That was probably the best pet for this particular Ravenclaw.
