Wrong? Was he wrong? The word 'afford' was rather strong, he supposed himself to be right about this. Supposed. Treyen still looked away as she spoke, and the scenery out the window seemed to gain his focus for the little amount of time he spent gazing at it.
Ellie could've just taken off with her broom by his stupid questioning...it was stupid enough because...what was he asking from her, anyway? He knew she had responsibilities to her House team, just like he did to his House. But...okay, maaaaaybe he'd been wrong, somewhat. That didn't make his concern to be less than true. The Prefect didn't truly care if she had time for him or not, he was mainly trying to make a point, and failing at it. He was perfectly fine with seeing her once a week, after all, they were barely a little bit more than friends, right?
It wasn't fair for him to say what he did, but there was a point to that, and he just begun to feel worse after she apologized, at which point his eyes were on her.
"No, I'm sorry...I shouldn't have...," shouldn't have what? Because he'd seemed genuinely upset about it at first...so, clearly, some of what he said was completely true, or everything was, "...you don't have to be sorry, really, I should be." Because she hadn't moved away from him even though she had the chance.
'Why?'. He'd missed that. And a small smile made a sudden appearance. He'll answer, soon enough, "Because...," he started again, "...I like you, and I don't like to see you worrying over something that doesn't matter as much to you as it does to everyone else," he also wanted his favorite Ravenclaw to win the Quidditch Cup, "That actually messes up with Quidditch," wouldn't HE know?
"One day off everything will do your mind good." She should just spend one Sunday with friends doing absolutely nothing. That was rather refreshing.
And now he smiled, she was missing an incredible insight on the whole thing, "But you did well, and I'm not talking about getting the Snitch because we both know you didn't." Yeah, Lockhart, nice one. "But your team killed out there on the Pitch," Hufflepuff didn't even score a single point, except for the Snitch points, "Your job as Captain has been flawless so far. A small amount of pride is acceptable."
His eyes were back on the window, "Practice every single day if you want, but take a day off for me." Just one. She didn't need to stress over things. And he shouldn't be adding any stress either, which is why he didn't mention the their time together again.
He had no idea how guilty she felt.
And confused. He was confusing her.
"What are you sorry for?" No, really, she'd love to know, because that was beyond her. It would probably bug her all day, too. That and the fact that she has no interests outside of Quidditch.
Thanks for pointing that out in two ways, Treyen.
Ellie knew full well why
she was sorry. Because he shouldn't even think that, in her opinion.
"What are you talking about?" Her eyes were on him and her eyebrows were knitted together in a frown. What didn't matter? A lot of things mattered. Ellie just had a hard time balancing it all. In fact, it really wasn't balanced much at all.
Which made his words make perfect sense. A day off
might do you mind good. Maybe. What would she do with her day off, though? She'd most likely be
thinking about whatever she should be
doing. It was a terrible thing, when she worried. Maybe she'd just sleep all day. You couldn't worry when you slept, right?
She didn't catch the Snitch. Thaaaaanks, Treyen. Again.
Ellie sighed.
"But that's why I need to practice, see? I'm very proud of my team. But..." She took a moment to chew her lip and finger the book he'd given her, which was still in her lap.
"It didn't matter, see, because I was bad. It didn't matter that Vashti didn't miss a goal, or that Max blocked all but one in his very first match, because I couldn't catch a Snitch. Everyone else performed their job perfectly, and I couldn't do mine." Her team lost because of
her and
she was supposed lead them to
winning. It was her fault. She had to practice to be better or....they shouldn't even have her as Captain.
Which was why she couldn't afford to take a day off. And she was tired of going back and forth with this. Treyen made excellent points, as well as... No, he just made good points, and Ellie was too stubborn to listen.
