One of two things were going on. Either Arya was completely disagreeing with him...or agreeing with him to some extent but didn't want him to know she was agreeing with it. He supposed the latter option was the correct one. Why? Because he'd been in Sabel's position once, and he knew what that was like, therefore Arya couldn't possibly disagree with him since she knew the state he was in when the school year ended this past June.

There was only one thing he said. "That's understandable." ALL of it. All of her answers should be appointed to those words he'd just said. All of them. Yet he was still saddened by the news.

"Arya," he started to say, as he sat up again, "Is there a way of knowing if...," if Sabel..., he never finished his question, because he shook his head instead, "How much did you let him explain himself?" knowing Arya, she probably didn't give him enough time. She was hurt, and words will do very little, truth be told.

Actions, however, were different. And he knew this because he noticed the change in Ellie when the Snitch was given to her. That single gesture spoke louder than the thousand words or more he could've voiced out.
