She was just as confused as Simon was. "I'm not sure," she said turning the paper over. The Quibbler clearly had an angle and it was very much against anything and everything the wizarding world was doing to keep itself a secret from non-magical folk. " I saw a poster in Diagon Alley over the summer," she said more thinking aloud than anything. " I think...that poster and this Quibbler are connected." SPOILER!!: Kurumi clone #2 Quote:

No, it probably wasn't. But if someone did want them to see the Quibblers, then who would it be? Were there other suspicious-looking people on the train?
Or yeah, it could just be for publicity. "But why put them here just this year? Why weren't they here last year or the year before?" Etc, etc. Maybe they'd only just gotten a new editor? Perhaps. She was definitely going to look all this up in the library once she got the chance. "I think I will get one, actually," she answered, glancing back down at the magazine. Buying one would probably help with the research, right? Oh, her mom took her wand away? Well, that could be understandable for a punishment she supposed, like how Muggle kids got their phones or computers taken away if they were bad. But Kurumi didn't seem like a bad kid so... Oh. Her mother was afraid of magic. That was why. And that was...well, it was both understandable in a way, because Vashti could see how magic would be frightening to non-magical people - her parents had been quite surprised and even a bit afraid when she'd gotten her Hogwarts letter four years ago - but it was also quite sad too because Kurumi's mother's fear was obviously hurting her and probably her brothers too.
Hesitating only a moment, she laid a gentle hand on the Gryffindor's shoulder. "I'm sorry to hear that," she said softly. "But you don't have to worry about anything like that at Hogwarts. No one's going to do any of that here." It was all she could think to say. Thank goodness Treyen was here as well to say the things that Vashti couldn't think of - and to grab the tissues that she hadn't noticed. Quote:

And since they weren't allowed to do magic anyway, then it was all good with him. "I had mine taken away too, until two years ago, I guess...safety reasons," he shrugged, hoping it will make Kurumi feel better? Because there was something in there that didn't make sense. He didn't understand the contact lenses thing, for one. And he couldn't understand the way her mother acted because he'd lost his before he could possibly know how his mother reacted to magical stuff. He'd never asked his sister about her, though. "It's okay...she just wants you safe, I think," but he truly didn't know, did he?
Then his eyes widened and he, yes, panicked. Why was she crying?! He didn't have a tissue or anything! Oh, Kurumi! Why are you crying?! "You...okay, Kurumi?" his voice gave away the panic he was now feeling. He hadn't made her cry, had he?! But his eyes caught some tissues on the trolley and he took them, well, just two of those, and extended them towards the little Gryffindor. No, he couldn't speak.
" T-t-thanks," Kurumi whimpered taking the tissues from Treyen. The, she started giggling softly. The look of utter panic on his face was amusing. " Treyen, a smile suits you better," she said dabbing a few more tears from her eyes. She smiled up at the two older students. She was a little embarrassed, perhaps even ashamed, that she was crying right now. She had told herself that she was going to be stronger on the subject. Must have been all the emotions flying around right now: the excitement of going back to school, the mystery revolving around this paper, talking about her past...it all could be very overwhelming for a 12-year-old.
