I agree with that too, and yes, more context to Hermione's devastation (which I think was still portrayed very accurately) would always be a good thing. But as someone said above, there are so many different facets that go into making a decision on a movie, and I think the real problem isn't that Yates ships Harry/Hermione or anything, but it's just that he seems kind of disorganized and like he doesn't have a really clear idea of the movie in his head before he shoots. It seems like he's more the kind of director who likes to shoot a bunch of scenes and then string them all together in the editing room. So he was probably out in Scotland, thought "Hey, Rupert and Emma! I got a great idea, let's shoot some footage of you guys throwing stones together!" and then in the editing room, thought "Aw, this is a great scene, but doesn't really work in the movie like I hoped." We saw the same thing happen with the ending of Part I, where he had to change it last minute because it didn't work like he hoped it would. That's the real problem.
