Shrivelfigs are messy, so dawn your gloves," she said putting her gloves on. "Squish them in your hands and try and get as much into the cauldron and off your gloves as you can." She said as she demonstrated. "After you are done with the figs, take the knotgrass and run it gently over your gloves. This will, one, help get the excess fig off and two, coat the knotgrass so it won't wilt too quickly in the potion." She then took off her gloves and cleaned them.
After Em was done slicing the knotgrass, she set it aside, and listened to the next few steps. Putting her gloves on, she picked up the shrivelfigs, and squeesed them over the cauldron. Yeah, it kinda reminded her of milking a cow. Next, she picked up the knotgrass, and 'cleaned' her gloves with them. Yes, do exactly as Lafay says!

When she was done with that, she picked up her quill and recorded the steps she had just done.

Potions Lesson II

De-aging potion
(This formula lowers ages, but not mental capacity)

Ingredinets
  • 1 gallon of goat's milk.
  • 1 tsp of crushed Yellow Moonstone
  • 2 lacewing flies, Blue
  • 10 Shrivelfigs
  • 2 tbsp of chopped knotgrass
  • 1 drop of Leech juice
  • 5 drops Pomegranite juice
  • 1 tsp bicorn horn, crushed
  • 1 phoenix tear
  • 1 daisy root, finely chopped
  • 2 sprigs of Fluxweed
  • 2 peppermint toads
  • 1 chocolate frog
  • 1 liquorish wand
Method
Step 1: Clean Cauldron!
Step 2: Fill cauldron with goats milk. (closest animal milk to mother’s milk)
Step 3: Crush moonstone with mortar and pestle. When it is a powder, stir cauldron as it is sprinkled in. (Yellow Moonstone energizes the milk, and causes regression)
Step 4: add lacewing flies. Stir clockwise twice, and counter clockwise five times. (Blue, the colour of youth.)
Step 5: Knotgrass- never re-cut the same spot. Tip side at left, run silver knife through it, from top to bottom. Set aside for juices to come to surface
Step 6: With gloves on, squeeze shrivelfigs over cauldron, getting as much as possible in the potion.
Step 7: Rub knotgrass over gloves to remove the rest of the fig. This coats the knotgrass, to prevent it from wilting quidckly.
Step 8: Clean gloves.

Oh, no! Oh, no! Oh, no! they were all going to DIE! Lafay had gotten all super angry and ahh! Em did not like that at all. But the professor had "asked" them a question, and Em figured she better answer it. "c-continue, M-ma'am" please don't kill me!

If you do not care to learn," She motioned her wand and the door slammed open. She didn't say a word... but it was pretty obvious she meant to get out. She turned to the ravenclaw who spoke. "I will ask that question when we are finished with the potion." She said and then continued.

"NEXT INGREDIENT." She said and moved on. "You don't have to squeeze the juice out of the leeches, that's been done for you... but in case you ever have to." She took a leech in her bare hands, laid it on a cloth and rolled over it with a small rolling pin. She then pulled up the cloth and wrung it from top to bottom in a beaker. "That's how you do it. If you wish to try it... the leeches are in the jar behind me, the leech juice is over here, and you can take some with your dropper." She dropped the drop of leech juice in the cauldron... and then she dropped a crimson liquid in after it. "After the leech juice you add the five drops of pomegranate juice." The steam was now purple. "Notice the distinctive steam..."
Ok, Em was going to stay. Even if she was scared for her life. Maybe Lafay would respect that? Yeah, right.

Ok, She should probably try juicing the leech herself. It seemed like that would be useful to know. She made her way CAREFULLY to the jar of leeches, but chickened out. Not because of the slime, but because if she messed up, Lafay would skin her alive. So she used her dropper to extract so leech juice, and was careful to drop only a single drop into her cauldron. Then, just to be safe, she cast the cleaning charm again, and retrieved some pomegranate juice, and let five drops fall into her potion. Well, there was the steam. Did that mean she had done everything correctly so far? hmm, time to take more notes
