And...chit-chat? Something twisted in his gut as she asked about family. It, wasn't along the same lines she was inquiring, but family was still family so the question, in the long run painfully applied. "It is chit-chat. Or small talk. And no, I don't have sibblings."

Some part of him was afraid she'd further inquire about other family members, or even pets, and he quickly glanced at the door. "Didn't you say you were trying to get somewhere?" He wasn't trying to be rude, but there was simply no other way to ask.
