....

Obviously, it was too hard to do, and too hard to achieve, with Brody now talking to her. Or more like at her. It depended how you looked at the situation.

Raising an eyebrow as she looked around the compartment, a smile set on her lips and she nodded. "It's nice, a nice touch. Happy birthday." Mmm, civil was good.

... Oh, suuuure. Civil.

She thrust a package in the birthday girls direction, containing Brody's ticket to the Dominican Republic [for Lori found it too hard to uninvite her now, and besides Torin was coming], and a pair of pretty yellow plimsolls and a yellow coat, with a badger broach. Oh, and of course, there was the little pink comb and mirror and all other stuff like that, just to top off the present. Lori had removed the photo album from the present, just so she could look at them later.

"I wanted to. I'm not a cow, Brody. I still care." Obviously, unlike some. Thanks to that tone, her fellow badger had just took.

Looking at the other girl in the compartment, Lori looked down at her feet, [her prettily clothed foot, actually] before sighing. Hug?

... Hug?

No.

So she just stood there, looking pretty.

She wanted to hug Brody, she really did. But she wasn't making the first move, blimey not even boys had got her making the first move, Brody certainly wasn't.

"I... I can't." Can't forgive? No, she could do that, she already had. Can't forget? No, that was easy. Can't hug? No, she just didn't want to. Can't throw it all away? Yes. That was it, she couldn't throw this away, her friendship with Brody. Their sistership.

But, no hugging.

How dare she come in here and try to ruin her birthday like that. The girl should've known it was her birthday. And that they were going to celebrate. Well duh. She was Brody Summers after all.

She folded her arms, as she watched Goldy and Lori. That felt bittersweet. Like they should all have been liike that. Unfortunately they were not. Because Lori had decided to react in a crap way. it wasn't Brody's fault. She had onyl wanbted to make herself happy.
She held the present close, as it was thrust in her direction. In any other situation she probably would've given it back. But it was from Lori. Her best friend. And she was not going to throw it away. But she would keep it. And open it when she got home. In her room. On her own. Because then she could cry. Because she still wanted Lori to be her best friend. It wasn't fair. Nothing was fair.

What. What was Goldy doing. We they both trying to ruin her birthday now? She wanted to glare at both of them. But they were her best friends, and she couldn't do that. Hug. Why hugging? That wouldn't help. Her eyes widened, as she stared at Lori. "You can't? Can't what?" Because she was a little confused. Was that meant to be a 'Can't hug you because I dont want you be your friend anymore' because if it was Brody was getting out of the compartment right now. She stepped slightly forward, droppiong the present onto her seat. But she wasn't going to hug Lori first. Not if Lori was not even going to bother coming closer.

It was like... she didn't exist. Like this was some private battle of wills between two people she had called her best friends.

Had called.

"I hate you two," Gold said simply. "For doing this to me." She rose to her feet, and looked at Lori, at Brody, at both of them one-by-one. They didn't get it, did they? They thought this was between the two of them, that it was a win-or-lose situation for them.

"I've stayed silent, for you two," she said, quietly. Her tones weren't cold or angry, just quiet. Very quiet. "I've been there to hug you both, to cheer you up, just... been there. I've never asked you two for favours. I've never told you two that I'm down, or upset because you won't talk to each other -- and you take that, and me, for granted. Is that it, then? Do you think I'm some sort of mother figure who'll be around if you need hugs or advice, and can't find anyone else to talk to? Is that it?"

She took a deep breath. "I'm sorry I even tried to talk to both of you. It's obvious neither of you is willing to make the first move. But what's far more obvious is that neither of you ever gave so much as a single thought to how I might have felt - or be feeling - about this. I've stayed here, stuck in the crossfire, torn and God knows what else... and neither of you even thought about it. The first time I talked to Brody after Torin told me she had decided to leave, I was upset and angry - so very angry! - that she hadn't even told me. But when I saw her, she was upset herself, and I never said a word about my own feelings. I comforted her -- and I suppose that's all you two want. Someone you can come to for comfort, as a last resort. That's the value my feelings are given."

She picked up her bag. "Well, thank you very much for making me realize that you two don't care how your fights affect me. I can bet neither of you ever thought that this might be tearing me apart."

She headed for the compartment door.

Exhausted.

She was just exhausted, now.
