Gold looked up, when the Slytherins trailed back in. Her first thought was Eli's absence. Where was he? The kid could be scared to death, by anything and everything. They didn't get how to treat him. You only had to offer Eli a kind word, to make him understand.

Of course, if you had tried to eat him or something before you offered that kind word, your chances of making him understand something dimmed considerably. Maybe to the point of temporary non-existence.

Maybe.

... and her second thought was, of course, to ask Marie if everything was alright. But Gold held back. Of lately, she had started to realize she and Marie weren't exactly close anymore. She knew Marie preferred Destiny and Evelyn's company, and Gold wasn't one to interfere. So she gave an inward shrug, and waited for Patroclus to answer her question.

She wondered where Professor Lawson was. Poor guy. All he ever tried was to make things fun for them, and all they ever did was to make his plans backfire. He needed a break, which nobody seemed willing to give him. Gold wished all of this hadn't showed up in this class, though. This class, it should have been fun. Full of memories she would want to remember, next year. Or a decade later, if she lived to see that.
