Turns out that there was an influx of Dark Witches and Wizards about the time I hit the scene. Terrible stuff," he said solemnly. It was terrible, some of the things he had seen. The lives that had been lost. He understood that everywhere had their fair share of lives lost to Dark... but he saw some brutal stuff. Maybe that is why he turned so odd. Hmm. Interesting.

Worthwhile. He got that. He would want children of his to do something worthwhile. He nodded understandingly. Not that he had kids or EVER intended to reproduce. "A Potions Mistress. THat is interesting. I love potions, very challenging and rewarding. Great field of work," he said approvingly. He did understand the new home bit... more than he wanted to think about.

Damien laughed heartily. "I am not sure that I am a know everything tough guys... but can do my job well enough. I never wanted to be anything else. Never. I always knew. I think it was engrained in my DNA. I come from a long line of Aurors actually. Kind of something I was expected to do, luckily I loved the idea of it. The thrill," he said. The truth was the thrill was long gone... it was a necessity now. He had to do the work.

Sipping his coffee he surveyed her. Everyone knew the Dept. of Mysteries if they knew ANYTHING about the British Ministry. The infamous Battle of the Ministry and all that. The Death Chamber. "You are an Unspeakable then. Fascintating. I know that you can't talk about it, but how did you come to decide on taking such a secretive job?" he asked quietly. He understood the need for secrecy. He did indeed.
Marina nodded, a smallish nod. "I can understand," she said, simply. "My brother was an auror."

"Potions are good stuff," Marina smiled. "Much, much more fun, when you know you can invent your own, and don't have to follow instructions someone else set two hundred years ago, of course." Her smile widened, slightly. She remembered her first few years at school. She had always wanted to mess about, with potions. She still messed about, of course. Only, now she had much more success, knew what was likely to cause an explosion, and what was likely not to.

"I never knew what I wanted to do," she confessed, though laughingly. "Except that I wanted to be me, and have fun." Fun. She had grown up, loving that. Life and fate, apparently, had had other things in mind.

"Unspeakable Effron," she laughed. The name still sounded really, really formal; but that was how she was supposed to - and did - introduce herself to anyone, where business was concerned. Her eyes flickered though, at his question. "I.... don't know," she said, after a moment. She had been looking for a job, any job. But there were a few she could have applied for. Why had she applied for a position in the Death Chamber? She looked up at Damien, and smiled lightly. "I guess I wanted to come to terms with death," she said, with a little shrug of her white shoulders.

"So.... it must be pretty exciting, hunting out the bad guys. Danger and risks and stuff, right?" Excitement. It isn't always good.
