Then he asked her about where she'd been. Then the whole sad expression came over her again, and she didn't reply at first. Quietly she thought, hoping that her father would get better, all the hasty letters Hunter had written, the nights she had spent crying in the girl's dorm. She needed to tell Carter.. she couldn't hold it in much longer. She'd started crying in front Evan, but she didn't want to in front of Carter. In a bit of a choked voice, she said,
"My father.. he's not well.." It didn't sound complete enough, but she'd keep elaborating slowly as the words came.
