Preston looked to his NEWT students and nodded. It was a good question.
"You can't create magical effects with conjuration, so, for example, if you were to conjure a time-turner, it would just look like a time-turner but wouldn't work. Same principle applies to quills or racing brooms or wizard chess pieces. Like the geminio charm, as well. If you duplicate something with a magical effect, you only get the appearance, as Professor Kade taught last term."
He paused. "But, if you own a self-inking quill and you know where it is, you could certainly summon it with a spell and it would look to anyone else as if you'd conjured it."
"It would certainly be easier - and cheaper - if we were able to simply conjure our own magical implements. Especially quills." Given how often people were prone to breaking or misplacing them. "But then we'd never have any need for shopping, now would we?" Preston grinned. "Those manufacturers close guard their charms, too. I could charm a quill to be self-inking with some thought behind it, but it would likely not be the same spell that, say, Scribbulus uses, nor as good."
