Chapter 4: I didn’t expect to be here
“Come on Jess let’s go,” Harry called motioning her with a flick of his wrist.
“Where are we going?” Jess whined
“We are going here,” Harry replied. He pulled out some spare parchment and quill. “Now memorize this address,” Harry whispered shoving her the note.
The Headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix may be found at number 12 Grimmauld Place, London…”
“…what the bloody h*** is the Order of the Phoenix?” Jess cried. He could tell she hated being confused.
“Well,” Harry began, “it’s an old society created to take down Voldemort. But now he’s gone so it’s my house,” Harry ended simply. “Come on we’ve got avapporate,” Harry shuddered momentarily at the thought of avaparation. He still hated the feeling of being squeezed through a small tube even though he has his license.
“Oh,” Jess said still confused. “How come it’s yours?”
“Well,” Harry began, “Ok lets go!” Harry said loosing his temper. Then he grabbed Jess’s arm for a brief moment, and let it go once they reached the Black’s front steps.
Harry went and held the door open wide. Jess’s eyes widened as she stepped in. Glancing around the kitchen she was in aw. But what else could you expect from someone who lived their life as a bird.
They heard a short scuffle and out pops Kreatcher. Poor kids, it scared them to death.
“Is this a new blood traitor friend Master has found?” Kreatcher asked his voice deep and raspy. Upon hearing this Jess turned pale white from fear, and then read with embarrassment.
“Kreatcher,” Harry scolded, “this is Jess Potter, my sister!” Kreatcher’s eyes grew wide from shock. He bent down to beat his head on the floor, but before Harry could reach down and yank him off the ground he froze.
Jess’s finger was pointed strait at Kreatcher’s forehead. “Stop it now,” she ordered. Jess didn’t sound childish or scared. She sounded powerful.
Once Kreatcher had lifted himself off the ground he proceeded in bowing, but when he didn’t stop Jess merely raised her eyebrows. Kreatcher slowly backed away from her cold expression. And where he went Harry had no idea.
“How did you get this house?” Jess asked and her eyes pierced through his. It scared the bleep out of him.
“Our god father grew up in this house. His name was…” Harry continued his tale and sat down at the kitchen table. He hoped that all of his stories didn’t overwhelm the poor kid, but he didn’t have to worry.
She didn’t interrupt she just watched him. Part of Harry kept talking and the other was just trying to understand her. How did it feel to know how much of your life you missed. He missed 11years if you didn’t count his first, but his memory couldn’t recall his first year of life. It always felt like he missed something.
Her life kept starting over. She missed those simple years for her 11 years had been pulled and stretched into 17 years of living on the streets alone. She could never meet those who would have cared so much for her; mum, dad, Sirius, Lupin, Tonks, Dumbledore, Dobby… The list could go on.
“Wow, I missed that much,” Jess whispered and her voice brought him back to reality.
“Don’t worry,” she was actually sad she missed all the drama. Harry continued, “Some big problem is gonna come up,”
Jess and Harry exchanged grins. Jess looked at Harry’s scar wondering if she could ever overcome the legends he had preformed. With the friends that helped him and would continue to help forever.
While Harry looked at Jess’s phoenix braid. It showed the Gryffindor colors red and gold. She showed more courage than the entire house combined because she did things regardless of if she wanted to and regardless of what was easy. She did it because it had to be done and no one else would or could do it for her.
Both of them didn’t know why but they were proud of the other. More importantly they were proud they had found each other.
