What is this secret that they don't want us to know about?"
Antonia listened as Simon said he was going to their grandmother's house for the holiday. "Lucky you, I'm stuck here at this awful old school for the whole holiday season," she grumbled. "What did I do to deserve this? Does my dad hate me now or something?" She wiped a tear from her eye. She seldom cried and liked to pretend she was tough, but this was really getting to her. She brushed it aside with the sleeve of her sweater, hoping that Simon hadn't noticed.
Simon looked at Antonia, he was a bit sad now and didn't know what to say. "I know but as you said, they started talking at your fathers place and then they went back to Hollian and talked there, did you know the Hollian Minister.." He suddenly stopped she wouldn't know that, so he went on quickly. "I have the same feeling that there's something going on that no one wants us to know about and it's scary."
"I could always stay here with you?" Simon said suddenly seeing the tear in Antonia's eye but he didn't want to say anything to her about it, he waited for her to wipe it on the sleeve before continuing. "I don't think your father hates you and you know that, look what he did for you when you were younger.
Simon was about to continue when an owl swooped down on him and Antonia. "What the?" Simon turned to Antonia. "Is this your owl?" He was sure it wasn't his, he didn't want to touch the owl. "Ladies to open I think." Simon said suddenly.
