... and then she put her wooden spoon in the mixing bowl she had been given. Now to practice!
She pointed her wand at the bowl, swish-and-flicked it, and gave the Levitation Charm a shot. It was, of course, old, old, old now. Gold had been doing it since her first year. So thaaat was easy. She tapped her wand against the bowl, when it was about twelve inches in the air, and pronounced, "Fixate." There.
Then she turneddd her wand, to make her spoon move, practicing a bit to settle at just the right speed.
Lexi nodded a little, but she was really hoping Gold could elaborate a little more. "You're right, but how does it save us time, effort, and worry?" she asked the Gryffindor. "What could we be doing in the meantime...while the spoon is doing all the work?" Things other than watching wizarding soap operas, that is...maybe, something else in the kitchen? Something else with the baking? Text Cut: PamParanoid Quote:

With the spoon doing some of the work for us, we won't have to work as hard, and of course we can be working on other things in the meantime," she said. Laziness wasn't the only reason (or really even a reason at all) Lexi had chosen to teach this particular lesson. She'd hoped to encourage time management skills in the process, too. "Two points..." She watched as Professor Carlton stole borrowed one of the students bowl and spoon as a demonstration. The levitating spell, Destiny already knew, but the fixate one, well, now knowing what that spell did put a slight smirk on her face. She could just..point her wand and have Evelyn fixed to her chair!? Mwaha! That spell was definitely going to be practiced. Later on though, not during class.
The Locomotor spells, she was somewhat familiar with. She had used some type of that spell before. She couldn't remember which one at the moment, but it would come back to her. "The Locomotor spell is helpful to those that are lazy." Herself included. Although she didn't mind stirring a spoon herself. She wasn't that lazy.
Not having any questions..at the moment, Destiny placed her spoon in the bowl and pointed her wand. "Wingardium Leviosa." she said, giving a swish and a flick. HAHAHA! The bowl was flying! Flying perhaps a little too high.. Bringing the bowl down to a normal height, she said a quick "Fixate." and with a tap the bowl stopped. There. No more runaway bowls and spoons. She pointed her wand at the spoon this time and turned her wand in a clockwise direction, "Locomotor spoon!"
Woooot! Magic.
Lexi sort of eyed Destiny when she was so enthusiastic about the laziness aspect of the charm. At the same time, though, the professor could just stomp her foot in annoyance---not at Destiny, though. Oh, no. Lexi was annoyed because a few times today, she'd seen herself in a few of the students. Lexi would have definitely been the one to point out the laziness factor...well, in her student days, that is. Merlin, if she could just turn back time and re-do a few things. "You're right, it does keep us from having to do some of the work. However, it also allows us time to do other things, as well---productive things that help with the baking process...or cooking process in general," she said, hoping at least some of the students saw that benefit. "Two points..." Text Cut: -Bambi- Quote:

"The charm would be helpful so you could, um...multi-task?" he suggested, raising his hand. "I mean, the spoon could mix the batter and stuff, while you went and did something else."
Now, for the magic. He eyed the bowl in front of him for a minute before going for the spell. Wingardium Leviosa was an easy enough spell, it was getting the spoon's speed right Kel was a bit iffy about. Well, might as well start now. "Wingardium Leviosa." he muttered, swishing and flicking his wand at his bowl. He watched as it rose to about a foot above the table, and said "Fixate." His eyes widened in dismay as it continued to rise. He quickly checked the chalkboard, and sighed. "Fixate." he said again, this time tapping the side of the bowl. Tada! It worked.
Now, for the spoon. He started moving his wand around in a circle, at a speed that he thought would be good for the spoon. "Locomoto spoon." he said, nodding to himself. He smiled as he watched the spoon start going in a circle. Looking around, though, he realized that it was going slower than the other spoons. With another sigh, he tried again. "Multi-task! Thank you! Two points...," Lexi enthusiastically said. Merlin, she was hoping at least someone would bring that up. She sort of beamed at the Ravenclaw boy before turning back towards the Hufflepuff who'd been having trouble with levitation. Text Cut: Harry174 Quote:

"Wingardiumleviosa." He said quietly and hurringly, he really wanted the spell to work but it didn't. "Professor." He said as he looked at the bowl. "It just doesn't want to move." Simon sighed, he was totally hopeless at magic.
Lexi gave the boy an understanding smile. "It's perfectly normal to not get all spells on the first try. You just have to keep practicing until you can get it right," Lexi assured. Her eyes scanned the room as she looked for someone who'd mastered the spell...or seemed to, at least. "Hmm...maybe I can get another student to model it for you a few times. That used to help me a lot when I was in school..." Text Cut: Poisonedbyyou Quote:

Especially since Ravenclaw couldn't lose any more points. Although the professor seemed really nice. Meh. She wouldn't risk it. Maybe if she met this boy later on outside of class, they could speak properly.
Abby patted her wand lying on the table next to her bowl and spoon. Wand out, check.
CUPCAKES? YES! Maybe they would be learning how to make super yummeh awesome ones like the cupcakes that had been served at the Ravenclaw celebration. Mmmm. She continued to watch the professor's demonstration, taking note of each wand motion and incantation.
Okay, so the levitation charm was easy enough. Abby swished and flicked her wand at her bowl. "Wingardium Leviosa." Her bowl rose and she waited a little. As for Fixate, Abby had only ever used it a few times before, but it was pretty basic. With her bowl at the proper height, she tapped it on its side and cast the charm to make it stop.
Alrighty. Next the spoon. Abby pointed her wand at the wooden spoon lying on the table. Erm, she didn't want a flying spoon, so she moved so that her wand was pointing at the bowl at a medium speed of sorts. "Locomotor spool." The spoon lifted and followed the direction her wand had taken over to the bowl. With that, she continued to turn the spoon. Yay! This was fun. "Having the spoon turn on its own might be useful if you don't want to get your hands messy," Abby said. "Also, maybe if you're mixing something like batter, which could be thick depending on what you're making, this charm could reduce effort."
Hmm...Lexi hadn't actually considered that this charm helped keep things...like hands...cleaner, but she had to admit, it was a really good idea. "Good thinking. I hadn't actually thought of that one yet, but...you're right. It does help keep things from getting messy. Two points," she said. Text Cut: Ron/Hermione 4 eva Quote:

Also she heard Professor Carlton say that a charm that will pretty much do lots of the work for her which was like baking without hardly doing anything weirdly enough. Then the Professor said that some charms could do the whole process, which was not really good and she wouldn't be doing anything at all in the lesson. But the charm that they were focusing on was a charm that caused a spoon...or any utensil to turn on itself and a washrag to clean all the dishes, that was pretty impressive. Magic was just too awesome.
How is the charm helpful? Why would someone want to use it? Raising her hand Melissa spoke. "Well it cuts down work and it is quick and easy once you get the hang of it," that was an easy question for her to answer. Know she realised that she could start practising the spells she focused her full attention on her bowl, spoon and her wand.
Melissa turned her attention to her items, she got her wooden spoon and placed it inside her mixing bowl. Okay, now for the magic, she had watched Professor Carlton do it and now it was her turn. She picked up her wand, she knew Wingardium Leviosa, she practice it a lot when she came to Hogwarts. "Wingardium Leviosa!" she spoke, then watched the bowl float in the air. When she decided that it was a foot high she tapped her wand at the side of her bowl. "Fixate!" she spoke clearly but the bowl just fell back down onto the table. Annoyed she tried again. She did Wingardium Leviosa again with success and Fixate with shocking success but she just managed it, she was close to drop the bowl but she did it and she was proud of herself.
Melissa nodded at the instruction. So locomotor. "Locomotor," she spoke after she pointed her wand at the spoon and moved her wand in the direction she wanted it to go. Argh! It moved, but the other way. How did that happen. Sighing she tried again. "Locomotor!" she said, moving her wand up instead. But the spoon just moved to the right and then froze. She also did her wand movements quick and she realised what Carlton had said. Okay, she was going to remember to move her wand at a alright pace, not to fast or too slow. "Locomotor," the spoon managed to move in the direction she wanted it to go. Hurray! But she was kinda bad at the spell, she did only just managed to do it correctly once. Then she listened to what Carlton said, right so she needed to catch them and be alert.
Melissa looked at the board and decided to write down the things what Professor Carlton had listed in her journal. "Mmhmm, once you get the hang of it, it'll come so naturally that it'll really take no time at all to put the charm to use," she agreed. "Thank you...two points, of course." She laughed softly then made another mental note about all the points she'd need to award. "Alright, class...just a few more minutes, then we'll be ready to start baking," she announced. OOC: I give points for participation in the lesson, so even if Lexi doesn't specifically tell your character he or she got points, if you're participating, you'll get them.
