Cadence sat in the chair, bouncing happily as her best friend shared in the fun with her. "Mhmm! And next summer, you should come stay with me!" she said, happily. Because, let's face it, what was the point of being pretty much spoiled if you couldn't share it with your friends? And then Melanie started guessing, and Cadence just started at her for a moment before laughing loudly. "No, that's not it. Though that would be pretty awesome!" she said through her laughter. And then Lanie asked what, and Cadence paused for dramatic effect, building up the suspense as she sat there smiling. "I have a new boyfriend!" she finally divulged. "His name is Jude, and he's a fifth year Ravenclaw. I met him in Diagon Alley. I like him a lot better than Nate. He, like, understands me. And we can talk for hours and hours and hours. He's nice, but he's not tooooo nice, you know, to the point that he's a sissy boy or anything. He's smart, and good at magic. And he's really cute!" she added this last part in with a little giggle and waited for her friend's response.
"I would... but I have to help out at my dad's store. And I don't get to see my family for a the entire term. I wouldn't want to be away for the whole summer." No. No, she wouldn't.
"But it would be awesome if I could just come over for a week or so!" she beamed. Melanie was in the general area, anyway, with her aunt, during the very last week before school began. It would be fun to spend some time with Cadence then!

Melanie gaped at her at the news. Literally. Her eyes grew wide and her jaw just...dropped.
"But...Nate. You like Nate. You were gonna keep contact with him and stuff." she said, the confusion clear in her voice. Melanie took a deep breath, her mind racing.
"I-I mean...Cadence he sounds nice and everything, and I suppose it's good you're moving on, but-" But, what? What more did she have to say? She wanted to ask her her how she'd moved on so fast, and how she though Nate would feel if he could hear the way she was speaking at the moment. Melanie wasn't sure how she could say anything else on her mind without bursting Cadence's bubble, though- she was afraid it would be very easily popped. And, really, Melanie reasoned, how was she to understand such matters, when she had never even really been with a boy? How could she understand, anyway?
"Congratulations." Melanie finished with a feeble smile.
"I'll have to meet him sometime, I suppose." she said resignedly. Whatever.
