Once the introduction speech was over, Madrigal walked into the next room which was in such disarray that she paused for a moment, almost struck motionless by what she was looking at. She ducked quickly as a frying pan nearly collided with her head and silently thanked whatever deity was listening for her quick Quidditch reflexes from school. Just as that thought passed through her mind, however, a mop swept in front of her, drenching her shoes in dirty water. "Scourgify," she muttered, cleaning her shoes as the mop danced back to the middle of the room.
She ducked again as a Snitch flew toward her head but, when she looked up, she realized it wasn't a Snitch, but a poorly transfigured teacup-canary. Scowling to herself, she pointed her wand at the flock of tenaries and said, "Aresto Momentum!"
The group of tenaries slowed down to an almost comical pace and she zapped two or three of them with a quick Homorphus Charm, turning them back into birds before the slowing spell wore off and the rest of the tenaries started zooming around the ceiling at breakneck speeds again.
Walking toward the cauldron at the other end of the room then, she took a look at the contents as well as the ingredients nearby and tried to deduce what the potion had originally been intended to be. "Quills..." she muttered to herself, thinking hard. She noticed, then, the half-used jar of undiluted Bubotuber Pus and a decanter of honeywater nearby and, putting it together with the quills off to one side, knew that this was supposed to have been a potion for making Self-Inking Quills in which too many beetles' eyes had been added.
She stirred the pot four times counterclockwise and once clockwise before adding two drops of the Bubotuber Pus and two splashes of the honeywater. She stirred four times counterclockwise and once clockwise again and the potion started bubbling lightly at the color turned from bright yellow to pale green.
She added two scruples of knotgrass and the potion almost immediately began turning to a dark blue as she continuously stirred clockwise. After twelve rotations, she removed the stirring rod and added an eagle owl feather. As she added the feather, it dissolved in the bubbling potion, which stopped bubbling after the feather had completely dissolved. The potion was now a dark blue, almost black color. She took a quill and just barely dipped to the tip of it into the potion.
Taking a slip of paper out of her pocket, she flattened it on the table holding the ingredients and wrote her name in neat handwriting on the piece of paper, smiling satisfactorily.
