He brushed some dirt off of his trousers. Today's lesson had been rather boring; only about bowtruckles and how to capture them without getting your eyes clawed out by their rather sharp nails. Of course, wands were forbidden and the task had required much running about the woods and getting down into the bushes and dirt. Faris had scurgio-ed most of the muck off of his attire, although a stray speck of dirt lay here of there on his clothes and a tiny leaf remained in his hair, much to his ignorance. He put his hands in his trousers as he walked along, contemplating about what events the future would hold. He definitely knew about something coming up that was called Rush Week. Heaps of freshmen would be in competition to enter into the oh-so-popular fraternities and sororities. In Italy, there was no such thing. Where there was the rare university and the even more rare students, there was a rather homely aura about it all. No competition, no trying to out-wit or out-muscle a peer. But after all, if had been Faris's choice to come to Wenlock University. If he had wanted to stay a farmboy or go to an Italian school, he could have easily stayed.
Not that the people of Wenlock weren't friendly. His roommates, Syler and Harlem, were great. Syler was a seasoned sophomore and it was fantastic to have a person around to show him the ropes of Wenlock. Harlem was a neat freak and always cleaning Faris's belongings, and Faris didn't mind one bit. He actually found it quite endearing; it was almost like living with his mamma back in the Italian countryside once more. His acquaintances were also pretty friendly as well. Brushing some stray dirt off of his white cotton tee shirt, he noticed two acquaintances on the pathway up ahead; none other than Jill and Layla. He had met them at the stray party or two but had not spoken to them too much. Passing them by, he smile and spoke in his slight Italian accent, "Good afternoon, ladies." Nodding, he continued on his way.
A few feet up the path he noticed another student who looked quite confused. "In need of some assistance, mate?" Faris had gotten the hang of some English slang during his first month at the school, so why not put it to use? |
