"Gingersnapple?" the redheaded professor repeated her cat's name but shook her head. "No no he's at home. Mum's sick. Needs the cat." Even if he did give Robbie a hard time, Gingersnapple practically had magical healing powers, or at least he did in her mind.
In a way, she wanted the children to go, and in another way, she did not. But if they sounded like they had made up their minds....
"FINE! If you're so famished then take these with you! ALL OF YOU!"
Holding onto the hanky with one hand, Bunz pushed more coupons off her desk and at each of the boys in her office. Chaucer had a frog one, Tobias got shoved a tea party one, Legend got a pile of papers containing who knew which one, and she even nudged one to Jake too.
Now at least her desk was cleaner for whoever would come wandering in next. Jake had kept quiet after Bunbury told him about the cat, and chose to observe as the woman got more and more upset. Sure, he wasn't the best company for upset people... but until he found out who Bunz would rather have around... who was accessible, anyway... he'd stay. The show the woman was putting on, with the epic temper-tantrum, showed she wanted some kind of attention.
When a coupon came his way, Jake picked the scrap of paper up and looked at it. Wasn't this three now? As much as he wanted to return the coupon, Jake tucked it safely into his breast pocket and took another step forwards, the fear of the woman he previously felt no longer an issue.
Well... no longer a visible issue.
"Professor," the boy said quietly to the crying woman. Crying adults... were just... like an oxymoron.
"I am... not lllluh-... luh-... not llleaving. I came here... fffor your cccc... company anyway," he pointed out, settling himself in the seat and staring straight at the woman.
He definitely had no desire to leave the woman alone, that was definite. Plus, he felt he'd caused this... so he'd fix it.
"Thhhank you fuh-for the... coupon," he said as an afterthought, setlling in his seat and looking pretty much determined to stay. If she didn't want him here, he'd go find someone she wouldn't mind.
